hi guys i own a squire strat and am looking to purchase a new guitar. im looking at either a squire pressision bass or a guitar i found at hastings thats by gibson. the gibson looks like a less paul has sunburst finish and i guesse is cheaper version of it. would the look-a-like less paul be a rip off? any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

depends, is there a name on the les paul? if its an Epiphone (or Epi) I say get it, and it also depends if you know bass, I'd stick to what you know how to do, but thats just me.

Find out the brand and model. There are several Epiphone LP models that I would say pass on.

okay, get us more info then, the manufacturer, model, price, etc. so we can tell you what kind of deal it is.. also, play it and see if its right for YOU which is most important... if the guitar feels right to you and sounds good, it shouldnt matter what model it is, get it

well, if it is a gibson, its probably decent quality.. unless its a faded series, which are mediocre for the money... play it, if you like it and its in your price range, by all means, get it

theres a series of gibsons called the "faded series" like the faded SG

there is no protective coat on the body, pretty much just stained wood.. the electronics aren't as good as the regular gibsons and they are much cheaper, but for a reason....most are decent, almost like an epiphone with a gibson headstock, but some are nice

faded sg's:

standard sg (theres other, better ones than this as well)

theres also faded les pauls and flying v's, i just used the SG as an example... its pretty much just a step up from epiphones... epiphone elitist models are better than the faded series though in my opinion

allright i found all the info on this guitar. but also wheni went to my guitar shop i was looki around and saw a couple of squire telecasters that looked pretty decent so i may drop the less paul look alike and go with a either one of those telecasters or a g-dec junior amp. this is a link to that gibson i was talkin about http://www.gibson.com/Products/GBME/Sig ... ture%20LP/

^ oh, okay, definitely go with the tele then if it fits you well... those baldwin guitars are generally junk and don't play too well... the tele will atleast be a decent start and you can mod it later on down the road if you wanted
