I've used many kinds and brands of guitars these past 30+ years. I recently sold my Les Paul Standard and purchased a 2008 American Standard and Limited edition Highway One. I wasn't sure if it would be a mistake doing it but I don't miss or even think about the Les Paul. I currently have 3 strats and 1 AD tele.

I'm not going to tell you what to choose. You will know when the time comes. I was trying to find out why Bucket Head switched to Gibson and ran into the Gibson forum. Interestingly enough they were all fat saying that Bucket Head didn't deserve a signature guitar because he didn't have enough songs and wasn't well known. (Jordan, Guitar Hero?) The reason he chose Gibson was because the LP is a custom made baritone which plays better in lower tunings. It is also oversize so it doesn't look tiny like his Jackson. There is nothing normal about that LP. It doesn't even have fret markers.

You have to play what is right for you but I'm sorry Bucket Head went with Gibson. They don't deserve him.

i own a standard left-hand strat and the quality is awesome i've played gibson guitars and they're not very good (acoustic wise yes, electric not so)

WHAT THE $@!& ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!! gibson electrics are awsome! the aucoustics are good too, i dont play aucoustic though. but how can any one say gibson electrics aren't that great, thats ... thats like... i dont know? i cant even think of something to compare that to it's so messed up! i dont know whats wrong with you stryder, i mean i know people are intitled to their own opinion and i would have been fine with something like "i dont like gibson electrics cause the neck is to fat for mea" or something like that. but to say they are in general not good guitars is stupid and wrong.

Trying to start trouble over here?

You should get one of these. It Graceful enough for Mello Jazz, Cool enough for Blues, and has enough Teeth for Hard Rock or Metal.......

Personally, 'feel like different guitars at different times, moods....

...all three are capable of playing just about anything you can ever hope to play on an electric guitar. 'Agree with the folks who say (1) one of each (2) try many before selecting one

Best of fortune.

Go for the Telecaster with a humbucker in the neck, or a nashville with a strat pickup in the middle. Comfy neck, great tones...

Woot!

fender is my favorite, Carvin is probably my second, and Gibson is my third.

Depends on the music - If you play blues or soft rock you need strat , if you play country or soul you need tele, if you play Rock you need SG and Les Paul if you play rock - blues . But in the end the music will soun the same on any guitar or amp - IT'S YOUR HEART THAT PLAYS - The Blues President 8)

If you've got to have one, imho, a Fender Stratocaster is the way to go. My personal preference is for the Custom Shop Texas Special pickups also - the ones used in the Knopfler and SRV sigs and from the Custom Shop. I try other guitars all the time. Gibsons are just much less naturally fitting to my hands. For one thing, the strings are really high off the body, and totally unlike an acoustic or a Strat. I play mainly Blues with some occasional palm muting and I've never found a guitar that falls to hand like my Fender Strat. Also, the controls on the Gibsons don't fall to hand like they do on my Strat. I play both acoustic and a Fender Strat - mainly the Strat.

In my case, I've got a Highway One and although the stock pickups had some good tones with the right settings, the CS TX Spcs are just a big step up. For one thing, noise is low in all settings, and zero with hum cancelling in the 2 and 4 positions. These pickups have a real searing tone to them as needed, buff up great with the tone turned down, offer everything from surf at the bridge to some excellent Hendrix-like sounds at bridge-mid to beatiful liquid Blues in the neck and also in the neck-mid. I was just trying some Epiphones and Gibsons recently, and there's just no comparison. The Slash Gibson Les Paul did have great tone the way Slash sets it up, but nothing else will fall to hand like a Strat.

Even though my guitar is not expensive, the feel and the tone can't be beat to my hands and ears. I'm including the hollow-bodies too. Even famous artists with many guitars will mainly play one or one model anyway. So far, I can't beat my Highway One with CS Tx Spcs (and a great setup from the guitar whiz at Wild West Guitars in Riverside) for the Blues I play.

Imho, whatever you play, go with a Strat - for the design, the playability. Probably, you can get a good metal sound by swapping pickups, like Metallica does, although I don't play metal.
