Now that I've gotten the snarkiness out of my system.......Dude!!!! It's a Fender website!!!!!! Strat. Do you need to ask?

Depends. What kind of music? See, a Les Paul is NOT a good choice for playing Surf. Metal head? Well, Iron Maiden not withstanding, a Strat might not be your best go-to choice. Too many variables to be considered.

Make it easy. buy one of each.

Your going to come to a Fender forum to ask if you should get a Gibson?

You've got to play both and see how you like them. What kinds of music do you play? Pick the one that sounds best with it. Honestly I've seen people play Gibsons in every style and people play Fenders in every style. Iron Man sounds really funny and weird on a Telecaster though. But then I've seen much heavier bands play much heavier songs on a Telecaster and sound fine. It's totally up to you to decide what you like best. Of course, this is a Fender forum and everyone here, including myself, will tell you they like Fender best. Spend a day at the guitar store and play as many Fenders and Gibsons as you can, as well as other guitars. Compare them and make up your mind that way.

Do you really think you're going to get a ton of "Gibson" answers from a Fender Forum? If we loved Gibson so much to prefer them, we wouldn't all be on the Fender Forum.

Both good guitars, neither is better.

if guitars were people, then fenders would be the people who are unique and do whatever they want, and gibsons would be afraid to go outside so they dont step in gum.
