I am proud to say that only 2 of my 17 guitars cost more than $225 brand new, and the most expensive one was $350. These days, you can find more good instruments in the $100-$300 price range than you could 15-20 years ago...

Sorry for the many pics and the hugeness of them. I just got a Epiphone Howard Roberts, great jazz guitar, it's about 13 years old. I also have a Classic Player 60 RI too. As you can see, I'm pretty pro fender! The last pic is old, since I sold my Koa Strat and upgraded to the Classic Player.

Over the decades, 'have come to the conclusion as have so many others...

...life is too precious to play bad instruments.

Which is not to say they have to be expensive, escpecially every one you own. The MIM Strat is a sweetie jewel, if you get a good one, a jewel if you get a great one.

These are mine. I also have a 35 yr. old hand-me-down Epiphone acoustic (not shown) from my father (cheap looking, but more than absolutely grand sounding!). I prefer my Strat most of the time, however. 8)

I would answer the original question as "all of my guitars are more capable than I am"........
That said:

'01 American Strat standard w/noiseless pickups- excellent
Epiphone Dot specialsemi-hollow gibson humbuckers- Korean, very good
Stratacoustic-Chinese made/mexican strat neck-good practice piece
Ibenez dred acoustic- fair
