As reported in the N.Y. Post:
Doctors have found that prescribing music can improve heart health and lower cholesterol levels. If patients listen to 30 minutes a day of their favorite music it can go beyond relaxing them mentally - it benefits them physically by expanding and clearing blood vessels. It is believed to work by triggering the release into the bloodstream of nitric oxide, which helps prevent the buildup of blood clots and harmful cholesterol. Scientists have found that the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Madonna can improve endurance, while symphonies can improve mental focus. When it comes to the bloodstream, the key is not the type of music, but what the listener prefers. The same is true of volume and tempo.
Just something I thought I`d pass along.....

It makes sense to me. I can remember the days in chemo when I'd listen to music for hours...and it DID help!

See, I was about to buy into the whole thing till you got to that bit.

Still, don't want to take this the way of the Kurt Cobain thread in the Strat Forum, so let's just leave it there!

Seriously: music is very good for you. How could it not be?

No really, let's not!

My theory is that music is good for mental health because it is so existential. In other words, you do it in the "here and now". You can't be thinking of bad things in the past or future while concentrating on playing.

Suggests why so many with depression type issues use music to kinda self-medicate. (Doesn't always work, obviously...)

And what's good for the mind is likely good for the body too.

My two cents', anyway...

Cheers - C

I don't know about listening to music, but my wife claims that I am in a much better and calmer mood when I play my guitars daily.

Have you ever heard of anyone not liking music at all? I mean you can say you don't like a certain genre of music, sure. But I have never met anyone that dislikes all music.

I guess it is THAT important! Cool! :D

No, what I think he meant to say was "Madonna is meant to be endured."
