Only a hopeless romantic could understand...
I won't give up on love, Music or the lessons learned in life, after a cold ride on a fast bike with whiskey on your breath and tears in your eyes.

Translation: It's easy to talk me into buying myself guitars, amps and houses for long legged redheads.

What kind of "tool" would be used to create such effects (to take off the finish without going into the wood)?

A tool! A Grand tool of epic proportions! Am immense TOOL!!! And Lots of Friction!! Ha-Ha-HA

(a sander?)

They just dont look sanded to me. You'd have to be all kinds of special with a sander to get that degree of accuracy without doing some damage to the surrounding area. My guess would be that areas of wood are masked at different stages during the finishing process. I'd also bet that some thinners are used to get some of the 'bleed into' effect that you see on arm contours and rib cutouts.

I thought that Fender just dipped the guitars to be reliced in a Stored drum of Rory Gallagher's sweat... No?

Theres some secret formula involved for sure. We'll never know it either. That formula will be locked up in some secret vault of fort knox and stashed beneath the 'just for clapton specs'.

Well, hats off to Fender for making guitars that I not only want to play, but, actually enjoy talking about like a complete nerd.

Do we know if there will be any left-handed production of these models?

Love to snag a Tele.

Thanks.

Not to be harsh, but I don't see the point in relic-ing of brand new guitars. I'm not going to shell out $1000 for one of these Road Worns. I'd rather hoard money to purchase a real relic or save $300 and get a new model they are based upon and beat it up myself. But to each his own, right?

Cool, I can't wait to try them! I've always been a fan of the relic'd custom shop models, but I know I'll never have 5 grand to spend on a guitar. And if I got a $1500 American Fender I know I'd probably go crazy trying not to scratch it. So I think it's nice to have a guitar you don't have to worry about getting dents and scratches.

I think they look great! I'm also not a fan of the relic'ing thing, but I could definitely live with it if they play great and sound great and have a good price (what I think they have, a lacquer finished Fender guitar for under 1.000,00 US$ sounds really like a good deal). I dug the 60's strats more, since they don't need the neck wearing like the maple necks.

Sell me a clean, undamaged shiny new one and I'll relic it myself.

So what we have here is essentially the production line version of the Relic guitar for those who might have always had the interest, but not the "in$entive" until now.

Interesting marketing concept. Reading into Brad's post, I expect that these four instruments are just the beginning. Wouldn't be surprised if a series of amps are in the planning. If not...here's the

Doc
