Any Guitar related "New Year's Resolutions" out there?

For instance, mine is to get rid of a couple of amps / guitars that I just don't play anymore. I will probably give a guitar and amp to my son Jan. 18 for his birthday (he's gonna be 22)... He recently started playing again...

And the old man's hand me downs are pretty sweet.

Practice and play more. Buy less guitars. Build more pedals.

The same one I had last year: Instead of using leisure time to post, I should play more and record more. Once again, I have my fingers on the keyboard instead of the fretboard so I'm not off to a good start.

I've decided to set aside a few hours a day, to practice more and try to improve.

1. Get back to sight reading for bass (and practice tab/chord reading in "real time" for guitar).
2. Sell a couple of guitars and basses. I have too much sound overlap now -- I can weed a few out.
3. Continue playing with others, as I started doing in 08. I haven't done that since band days back in the 70s. Not only is it fun, but it's a great way to improve your playing and get out of ruts.
4. Master a few songs from start to finish. By this, I mean complete melody and chording. (Example: something like Moon Dance that listeners should be able to identify if you're playing it correctly.) As a 100% non-singer, this means picking songs that don't rely on having to hear the singer/lyrics to identify the tune.

Funny you should ask, I've just finished making mine!
1) Regular practice everyday
2) Finally buy a Strat
3) Compose some good tunes
4) Start a project on my old Ibanez
5) Work hard at college (where I'm doing music)

1. Practice more lead stuff.
2. Spend more time with my daughter (who is learning to play).
3. Look for my next GAS purchace.

My guitar-New-Year's resolution is...well...get better at actually playing. A year is not enough time to be anywhere close to good. Hmm, maybe that and learning more about guitars.

Cheers to all. May your resolutions work well for you. :)

Actually, yes! A big part of my resolution this year was to figure a way to devote more time and energy to my new band.

Guitar: Start playing by ear and learn songs all the way through instead of just the solos and intros.

Bass: Play by ear and work on technique and speed.

Drums: Get set up for recording and work on fills and transitions.

'Gonna keep on following Frank Zappa's immortal advice.

"Shut up and play your guitar."

And his sequel advice, "Shut up and play your guitar some more."

I already replied, but I already broke that resolution, so now I just need major GAS rehab this year...
