I would like to see one of these topics as a sticky.

Any way, I'm searching for more music I can play on the guitar.
I'm really into; Jimi Hendrix, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, RHCP, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Down.

I want more music that has really good solos and overall nice guitar play.
It feels like I'm stuck and I want some other music... Feels just aweful to look at the guitar that wants to be played but I haven't found anything that suits me to play for a long time, It's really hard to find music.

Name some bands and guitarists that you think would fit my taste. :)

Not to dodge a direct answer, but there are several threads here that should help you if you do little search.
There have been threads:
What are you listening to?
What is your favorite intro riff?
What is your favorite guitar solo?
Stranded on a desert island with 10 albums
etc

I constantly get ideas of things to listen to from the posts I see on these kinds of threads...

BB king? SRV? maybe clapton?
I agree that you should look through the topics mentioned above.
and you should really try to learn to improvise a lot. that's what it's eventually about!

I like most of the bands you posted up at the top so I would suggest looking at some of Carlos Santanas' work. That and maybe check out some Guns 'N Roses( when Slash was still with them) and Slash's Snakepit.

I had the same problem as you a few years ago. The problem is you don't listen to enough music, or listen to enough variety of music.

For example, there's plenty of stuff by Zeppelin that you can play besides the IV album. I would be very surprsied if you've gone through all of Zeppelin's work and now you're bored. The problem is when you hear a song if it's not a perfect guitar song then you don't want to learn it. In reality only very few songs have the guitar as the main instrument in the music. For example, the Who. PEte Townshend is technically the lead guitarist but the only time he actually plays lead is during a solo (which doesn't come up very often).

But if you want simple and perfect guitar playing songs, listen to ACDC. I sort of look down upon ACDC because there music is so damn simple half of it looks like they wrote it all in one day. I seriously don't know why they took so many years to get all that crap out. They use the same 4 chords in every song and many of their songs sound exactly the same.Anyway, it's a good place to start if you're "stuck," I know because I was in the same position as you at one point. Thankfully, I've moved away from rock music. I listen to Van Morrison and Bob Dylan now. You should check out some "non-rock" music like them, you might like it.

Okay, here are some suggestions:

AC/DC
-- Someone already mentioned them but focus heavily on 'Powerage' and 'Let There Be Rock' (both with Bon and are better than any Brian Johnson-era work). These two albums are monsters - every song. 'Powerage' is AC/DC's best album but sometimes gets lost in the mix. Don't make that mistake.

Led Zep -- Someone already mentioned them, too. But 'Presence' seems to be the forgotten album by people. Surprisingly, it may be their best work. It is very hard hitting, and the blues work in Tea For One is phenomenal. Also, if you do not have the 2007 remaster of 'The Song Remains The Same', then you should get it. Jimmy Page puts on lead guitar clinic from the word go. I also strongly recommend getting the 2007 TSRTS DVD, as well. Actually watching Page go at it when he was at his peak should be mind numbing for any rock guitarist, and really punctuates how he paved the 'guitar gunslinger' highway.

Thin Lizzy -- 'Live and Dangerous' should be in everyone's catalog. This album drips with the guitar prowess of Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham. There are a ton of different live albums and such. Steer clear of those and just get L&D ... it is the best, by far.

Foghat, April Wine & Pat Travers -- King Biscuit has live albums of each of these three that pretty much captures them at their best sounding and their peak material. Get these three KB albums. There is not one bad song in the bunch, and amazing guitar work throughout all three in spades.

Yes -- There is the forgotten album of theirs called 'Drama'. Even Yes fans forgot about it. Too bad, because it is AWESOME. "Tempus Fugit" makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up to this day. This album is the black shhep because it was when they were breaking up (it is the only Yes album that does not have Jon Anderson singing). The singing and keyboard chores went to the two guys from the Buggles (of "Video Killed the Radio Star" fame). Also, other Yes essentials are the amazing "Fragile", Close to the Edge", and the perennial "The Yes Album". Tremendous musicanship and songwriting throughout.

Nirvana -- They had an earlier album called "Incesticide" that is phenomenal. Very raw, but verrrrrry good. Feel free to forego any listening to ... yawn ... Neil (far too over-rated) Young. (the Neil thing is an inside joke to a previous thread - don't worry if you don't get it).

Dream Theater -- Check out "Images and Words". Great album.

Some obscure '90s stuff -- These are a couple of straight ahead rock bands from this era that never really caught on. If you like Pearl Jam and STP, you will really like these guys: I Mother Earth and My Sister's Machine. Both of these bands have very strong songs and guitar work.

Some not-so-obscure '90s stuff -- Sponge ('Wax Ecstatic') and Blind Melon had their share of success but it seems their shadow has faded with time. They were handily two of the better bands of that time, with material that sounds especially amazing today considering the shortage of good bands.

The Who -- If you do not have Tommy, Who's Next and Quadrophenia, then you need to fix that error immediately and listen till you bleed. This was a prolific period for the Who that argubaly stands as a testament to ... what is arguably ... the best rock band of all time.

You may wish to check-out anything by Ritchie Blackmore. As mentioned earlier in the thread; Deep Purple, his first major international break; Rainbow, or Blackmore's Night. The Rainbow era for Blackmore would probably be the best place to start.
Another all time consideration would be Jeff Beck. From the Yardbirds to his current day work, he has, and does, redefine the art of playing electric guitar.[/b]

Thanks dudes, I got some really good advises from you guys.
Plus, I'll look up more non-rock music.

It's late and I can't come up with much more to say for the moment, but I'll listen through everything you've posted! :)

I'm really into 90s music so i'd recommend

Soundgarden: Superunknown
Nirvana: Unplugged
The Wallflowers: Bringing Down The Horse
Stone Temple Pilots: EVERY ALBUM!!!!!

the rest of my music revolves around 50s-90s rock 'n roll

Hey when I said non-rock music I don't mean like Beethoven, unless you want to listen to that. What I mean is a lot of people when they get into rock music they stick to the edgy stuff, you know the really electric stuff like Jimi Hendrix, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, etc. So it's hard for them to get out of that and see other music. I was like that once, but now that I've been listening to music like Van Morrison (he's in the rock n roll Hall of Fame but he's not "edgy" if you know what I mean). I realize this is where my passion lies. Maybe that's just me though. I mean don't get me wrong, songs like Back in Blaclk and Welcome to the Jungle are catchy and I'd listen to them over rap anyday, but it feels like they're lacking something to me, like they don't have as much meaning as Van Morrison or Bob Dylan's music. I hope no one gets mad about me saying this, it's just a personal thing.

Look up these songs, and hopefully you'll get what I'm talking about:
"Dweller on the Threshold" by Van Morrison (my favorite song of all time).
"Hurt" by Johnny Cash. (Please don't be impacient with this song, the ending makes most people cry. Watch the video too).
"Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan.
"Tangled Up in Blue" by Bob Dylan.
"Visions of Johanna" by Bob Dylan (make you listen to the studio version of this one).
"Girl of the North Country" by Bob Dylan (one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard).
"Catch the Wind" by Donovan
"Universal Soldier" by Donovan
"Colors" by Donovan
"Piano Man" by Billy Joel

I could go on and on, that's just a taste of the music I like.

You should be able to find most of them on youtube, except Van Morrison because he doesn't allow his music on youtube unless it's from his company's youtube channel!

Now compare that to like "givin the dog a bone" or "high voltage" by ACDC.

err... To me they're just not comparable for me anyway. That's just my taste though. I'm just trying to give you some music that is not mainstream rock n roll if you know what I mean. I just didn't want to give you the typical stuff everyone else is giving you that's all.

Definitely check out Blind Melon if you're into Zeppelin at all. Don't be fooled by the one hit they had. No other song sounds like NO Rain, which is probably why they weren't more successful and why I listen to them once in a while. Most people want every song, every album to be the same as the last and the next. Those people are stupid. As Perry Farrel once said, "Some people should die, that's just unconscious knowledge..."

The Kinks. Dave Davis's jazzy melody lines are a thing of wonder.
Fun lovin criminals, hughy morgan is a very underrated guitarist.
10cc. Theres no lack of abstract idea's on their albums.
I'll second the vote for lizzy too, just avoid the gary moore era. Killer on the loose is a classic track.
