Yup they sure are made in the "US of A" and they are a GREAT value.

They cost less because the nitro finish costs less to apply and they use vintage style hardware and pickups which costs less. You won't find the fancy SCN pickups in 'em, but if your really want to do it that's an easy swap.

If the nitro finish supposedly costs less to apply, why dont they use it on the cheaper MIM Strats?????????????????

Intresting, the hwy 1's are (strat/tele) only around $150 less than the better-finished american standard version.......

and the american standard version comes with a hard case, valued around $100.......

Why buy the hwy 1?

I paid $674 for mine new. The American Standard was $999. Even if I spent the an extra $100 on a HSC it would still have been $774. That is like $225 difference between the American Standard VS the Highway 1. Plus the American Standards I played (and some of the other HWY 1's) did not "speak" to me like the Highway 1 I did purchace did.

They must. Incidently, the prices of the Highway 1's in my regular shop did go to $749 2 weeks after I bought mine. There must have been a higher intervention that brought me there that day to find that one. :)

I wish I could find an American Standard for $900.

I went to two shops yesterday, both chains. They were exactly 6 blocks apart, and the tags varied by as much as $200 on certain models. Some higher at one store, others higher at the other.

Lets see.... for about $200-250 more than a Highway One, with the American Strat you can get a beautiful finish compared to the dull satin finish that chips easily. You can get better pickups and tone/vol controls. You get a 2 pt tremelo that stays in tune much better. I would say that either the Hwy 1 is overpriced or the American Standard Strat is a good deal.
I must admit, I was never a big fan of the Hwy One guitars. The finish just looks kinda cheap to me, but hey, it's just my opinion. Plus, if I want vintage parts, I will buy an older guitar, or a reissue.
Everybody likes somthing different. Okay Hwy 1 fans, let's hear it.

You also have to consider that you get a hard shell case too.
