I'm going witht the '50's, only because I was born in '59. Vintage Baby!! My next purchase will be a 59 Bassman (RI), that will certainly round out my FENDER amp collection. :D

For straight looks, '66-'67. I love the large headstock with transition logo. For tone, I'll go with the early '60s. For overall build, now. So, put them together and you have my Custom Shop 66 Time Machine w/ custom pickups!

Now.

Vintage-ness is a set of Emperor's new clothes, for my money. Fender is making better guitars now (and more consistently) than at any time in their history. And I've been playing since 1970, when a '62 Strat was just a used guitar.

Tough one. Early 21st century perhaps. Plenty of reissues from great bygone eras (as we still have, ofcourse) and the DeArmond brand for that affordable Guild vibe.

+1

There is something about a guitar made from great wood that has been played continuously for 40 years. The problem with the vintage kit is that a fair bit is just meh, and you have to dig to find the gems.

Looks wise I like the 70s stuff, big headstocks, but with the earlier more deeply radiused bodies. I'd take almost any Fender produced in the last 10 years over almost any 70s produced equivalent guitar for quality though.

Look - I'm a Hall of Fame member on Harmony Central. Do I care how many posts I make? I'll go for quality over quantity here, OK. ;¬)
