I believe Fender's focus on acoustic guitars is aimed at their Guild brand.

It occurs to me that Fender has quite a few acoustic brands now besides Guild. They've owned Tacoma for quite awhile and they just acquired Ovation which also gives them the Takamine and Applause brands and I suppose some others.

Bring back the Guild Bluesbird !!

Fender owns Guild, Tacoma and Ovation, as well as having the distribution rights to Takamine, at least here in the US, from my understanding--all of which are acoustic guitar manufacturers. If you don't care much for the strictly Fender branded acoustics, it looks like you have a LOT of choices (what I just listed) under the FMIC banner that haven't been mentioned here yet.

Not only that, but Fender learned from some of the disasters that occurred after they shut down Guild in Westerly, RI and moved production to Corona. They soon realized that their expertise was not in hollow bodies and that sort of wood work. Guild was ultimately assigned to the Tacoma factory and after some back and forth, Fender management decided to let Tacoma management do things their way. End result: they make some very good guitars.

Granted, Fender itself doesn't make high end acoustics, but the ones I've tried are competitive for their prices. I have one at home (late 80s model) that I use for acoustic slide and it really doesn't have a bad sound at all.

I haven't liked any Fender acoustic I've played. Same with Gibson. I had the money to buy an extra acoustic a few years back and tried a lot of Gibsons - J45, Hummingbird, Dove, various Songwriters, and some others. None of them were "the one".

I've play Martins I've liked a lot, Taylors are a favorite, Breedlove Focus is an amazing guitar, Huss and Dalton, Collings, Olson - all great guitars.
