I respect Fender highly in terms of electric guitars. I don't own one, I own a Gibson SG, but my favorite guitar is probably a Telecaster and plan on getting one sometimes in my life. But I have to say I never liked any Fender acoustic I've ever played.. My friend owns one and it sounds horrible comparend to my Gibson Dove and I've played many Fenders in my local music store and they just don't sounds good. So is it safe to say that Gibson dominates acoustic-wise out of the two? Explain why please. Just curious to see your opinions.

NOTE: This topic is not intended to stir up any trouble. I'm new to the Fender Forums and this topic was posted out of mere curiosity, not with the intention of causing a fight.

Hi folkrock ,i own 2 Cordobas dont have any experience with Fender or Gibson accustics, Gibson was in the hollow body biz about a 100 years before Fender . the Fender line i think was to expand market share,where as Gibson started with non electric guitars and mandolines,it wasnt until les paul came along did gibson go electric

I don't know. I own a Fender Sonoran acoustic and love the sound. Tried a number of Gibsons and did not like the sound or the feel...

I love fender electrics but was never impressed with their acoustics, gotta go with Gibson here. I would buy a Martin first though.

Acoustics aren't really Fenders market and I don't think they should try to focus on that. Strats, teles and amps should remain Fenders focus.

Certainly Gibson has a better reputation for its acoustics and a much longer heritage, but I've seen Country players using Fenders in their videos. Also, sometimes I get the impression Fender offers them only to fill out the product line.

I believe Fender's focus on acoustic guitars is aimed at their Guild brand.

I love my DG-7, but yeah, Gibsons are better... A lot better.

Not a big surprise
Gibson was making acoustics for years before they went electric.

Fender has always been about ELECTRIC guitars. Their acoustics are an afterthought and (I'll bet) a very small portion of their market.

One of the first guitars I used when beginning to play was Fender acoustic. My dad owned 2 Gibson acoustics that he used to play frequently and I will have to say they both sounded and played better than that fender.

Fender owns Guild, Tacoma and Ovation, as well as having the distribution rights to Takamine, at least here in the US, from my understanding--all of which are acoustic guitar manufacturers. If you don't care much for the strictly Fender branded acoustics, it looks like you have a LOT of choices (what I just listed) under the FMIC banner that haven't been mentioned here yet.

I'd have to say Fender's are better, for the Price. When you spend $300 on a Fender Acoustic you really feel like you got your moneys worth. When you spend $1800 on a Gibson, and play it up against a Guild, Taylor, Martin, or Breedlove of the same price, you don't feel like you got your money's worth.

Fender= Pretty good Cheap Acoustics
Gibson= Overrated underbuilt Acoustics
Guild= The Happy Medium, where you get Pretty good Guitars for under $1000, and Really good Guitars for More than $1000.

I like the big, full sound of a Jumbo Gibson. Fender may have a more precise action, (as well as Martin), but not the "big" sound.

My 2 cents.

I've never found a Gibson or Fender acoustic that I really liked. I have found the Epiphone Masterbuilts to my liking as well as Taylor and Alvarez.
