I don't know about a reliable source, I have noticed a 50 dollarish mark-up on the Standard (MIM) guitars across the board. Not just one guitar shop, all the shops I go into.

Look around and you will see that the 50.00 increase is on many new guitars you can still see Standards advertised at 399.99 but you will notice that the same store will also have same color Standards at 449.99 my guess is the there 2009's

Sorry, I meant the New 2009 Fenders. I guess inflation has hit Fender too. That's ok, they are still nice guitars for a nice price. I like to see someone get a 2009 Gibson Les Paul for $440.

thats understandable, and no where near 25%,everyyear labor and enviromental concerns have to be considered in production costs, even when materials cost decrease the cost of doing business is ever increasing this is a fact of life

Even if they do, if the retailers want to give even bigger discounts (in order to sell something during this recession), we could end up paying less in 2009 than we did in 2008 (or 2007).

For example, there's a current 5 Percent Off "sale" at an internet retailer, but technically they can't list some brands in the "sale," so they say:
Quote:
Many manufacturers have established "Minimum Advertised Prices" for their products and, although we are allowed to SELL FOR LESS, they do not allow us to include their brands in this advertisement. Please call us to discover HUGE SAVINGS on this item and Other BRANDS subject to such minimum published prices (savings can sometimes be much greater than 5%). Please CALL NOW!

So the "hint" is to call to get "good" prices and just don't Click to Buy!

Its certainly happened here in the UK, prices have risen across the range by around the 25% mark, it had to happen because the £ stinks at the moment and against the $ has fallen by around 25% in the last few months.

I was in Sam Ash yesterday, 12/31/08 in Margate Fla and there were printed signs on the counter that showed price increase examples. The comment said something about purchase a Fender before the 2009 price increase take effect in Feb 09.

Yeah I've been planning to get a Deluxe Players strat from "soundslive.co.uk", I ordered it some months ago, but they were out of stock, so they "couldn't guarantee the price" so they cancelled the order. This price was really good for me, because the Sterling Pound was really weak against the Euro.
But some days ago I recieved an e-mail that "fender was going to raise their prices"...

really feeling like I am being "jerked around" by these sailsmen... Are they even allowed to cancel the order, because they're out of stock and give me a way higher price?

I"m living in the Netherlands... Any good options that I should consider? They're pretty expensive here...
