I can't seem to pm anyone. It always says "private messaging has been disabled on this board".
Then what is Pming for? if you can't do it?

I'm probably just missing something obvious here, but please, tell me what.

nevermind, I found out it actually is disabled. I personally find this really stupid, especially because you can't contact anyone without revealing your e-mail adress.

To solve this democraticly, I've started a poll. please, vote, it's a matter of pm or no pm.

If you ever need/want to contact an individual directly you're welcome to drop me a line at ForumAdmin@fender.com -- I will contact the individual directly and notify him/her that you're attempting to establish a connection.

I dont want private messaging. I've nothing to say to anyone i wouldnt be happy for the whole world to read.

When i first saw the PM button i thought it took us to Gordon Browns myspace page, and decided to never go near it ever again :D

Why would you want to contact anyone privately?
I will not enter into that type of communication.
If you have anything to say, you can say it here.

Seems like a waste of bandwidth. We're here to talk about guitars. If you want to sneak off and talk about other things, there are plenty of options available to you.

I'm not trying to speak for Fender, but PM causes a lot tof Administrative problems. They'd have to have a dedicated PM monitor. Also, I used to help my friend monitor his Chat rooms, and most friction starts in PM (either inapropriate behavior or people who take offence because their PM request was refused) then it carry's over into the public rooms.

Lastly it would push this Message Board into the Realm of Chat Room! We're here to share Guitar Knowledge first and formost, there's Myspace for Chatting and meeting new people.

Yes, FirstMeasure's comments are spot on as far as why we disabled PM from the start. Folks naturally tend to get quite a bit bolder and braver when they don't think their comments are being viewed by hundreds of other forum members and hence it is a big source of additional moderation activity in exchange for truthfully very little 'gain' from a community perspective.

haha ok, I get all your points, ofcourse I thought of this before starting this topic (though briefly).
But I do think it could be quite useful for certain matters. For instance, I have this word document with the minor guitar scale (ok, URL, I get your point), and all the notes on the strings and some explanation, for Rkeisher's daughter, who is trying to figure out how to read sheet paper for the guitar.
I found making this document very handy for me and guitarplayers around me, but I thought it was too big and not interesting enough for most forum-people, to post here. Wasn't I right? I still think I was.

But now I know that I can contact the admins through email, I don't find PM enabling necessary anymore, also because most of you don't.
One more note: When you read the FAQ's, although I guess none of you have, because you havn't noticed this, with multiple problems, they reconnect you to contacting the admins (through pm).

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I didn't know how to before you "spammed" my topic with replies. Now I know how, but I don't know if in the future, new members could find out easily.

I just wanted this to be clear. Sorry for this long post. Any more people who want to act like I'm some nasty pervert trying to insult, or harass people secretly? feel free to post!

ok, maybe I didn't formulate that perfectly, let me try again:
The "FAQs" section of the forums sais that, when you have any problems with the the forums, you have to contact the Admins.
I did not know how to do that, before I started this topic. I'm afraid that new forum members might experience the same problem.

I was really sure that I wrote that in sensible English, but it's a Dutchman's word over an Englishman's, so I guess I'm wrong. (damn it)

There are some legal theories where Fender could be held liable for something said (e.g., a threat, derogatory comments, etc.) in a PM. This might not apply to all countries, but Fender is a US corp and so a US citizen could sue under such a theory.

For a parallel, companies have been held liable for what employees say in a PM, both in house and to external entities. That's happened even if the company didn't set up and doesn't support PM. The concept is the company could have monitored or blocked PM and so they're at least 1% responsible for what was said.
