Always Hey You and Pigs (3DO)
Not so much the lyrics of Pigs, but the groove. I like it, I like it alot.

How about you?

I've never been such a Dead fan but appreciate the contribution they've made to the world of music. I would like to have had the opportunity to see them live, sure it would have been awesome. 8) Of the four bands listed I'm probably more of a Floyd fan and then Hendrix, so I voted for them.

Pick one:
Because they suck?
Because the GD were a waste of skin?
Because (unless you are/were wasted out of your mind at the time) they just weren't that good.

Just my opinion I know, but it's an option that explains it.

I've heard of both the Smashing Pumpkins and The Grateful Dead (all from the Guitar Hero game set up at the Youth Group I attend!). I've also heard (from my father) that The Grateful Dead used to be a bluegrass band. The comment my mother responded with when she heard that..."I'm so glad they saw the light."

The Grateful Dead always seemed like they were playing out of tune to me. Terrapin Station was a good album though.

I like pink floyd also, but not as much

The Dead are pretty cool, and they were definitely one of the first true psychedelic bands (i am a HUGE fan of psychedelia)

But Hendrix did so much to revolutionize guitar, along with clapton, page, and beck.

The first Time I saw the Dead They were absolutly fantastic! Gerry was In tune, Phil was on the Beat, they were singing Harmonies that were Spot on. The next time I seen them (less than 24 hours later), they were one big, out of tune Mess. Phill was almost a whole Beat behind, Gerry was turned down most of the time and out of tune, and Bob was obviously pissed. It was almost as if they were fighting each other.

Traffic Opened (With Steve Winwood, but not Dave Mason). They were the real deal both nights. Totaly different set list and mood, and great musicianship from all members.

Your Father was almost right. Gerry Garcia was a Bluegrass Musician. He played the Banjo before he discovered the Electric Guitar and the San Fransico Scene, but The Grateful Dead were always an experimental Hippie Jam Band.

Likely because many individuals are centered in the present and have no interest in looking back to musical roots. Same goes for Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson to young people whom. on 'face' value, should be expected to know.

Haha. I agree. even their recordings sounded out of tune. I still liked them, though. How could you not like "Truckin"? True tone perfection is not the holy grail of all types of music, at least not to me. If it was, there would be a huge lack of artists to listen to. Where would we be without guys like Robert Johnson ? It's more about the overall sound than timing and tone precision.

I used to be a HUGE Smashing Pumpkins enthusiast back in 1998-2000! But their latest record (Zeitgest) kinda disappointed me. Where are the amazing sounds of "Mellon Collie & the infinite sadness" and "Adore"?
