Love Hendrix! Next to Zappa my fave six-slinger Could listen to him non-stop all day long. Even now I hear new things when playing his stuff.

I like Pink Floyd up to Dark Side. I thought they were really sonic, original, exploratory and daring. From Dark Side on they became just another band slogging out toons. And the sound effects kinda took over from being incorporated into the sound of the song into just being sound effects. At least I was warned -- "and when the band you're in starts playing different tunes...." -- yeah, c ya! I thought their soundtracks were a good avenue for them writing more straight ahead mainstream songs.

Dead - not so much. I grew up listening to 'em - mostly "Workingman's" and "Aoxomoxoa". It was good, but being a teenage male I was more into The Who and Kinks and Zep, Grand Funk - y'know, stuff that was loud and pounding! The thing I have always liked about the Dead was their spirit abd the way they always supported new artists and exposed ppl playing different ethnic styles of music. Also their the way they shared their music. The guys definitely had the great spirit which is the true heart of rock 'n roll. Same with Neil Young - not a fan of his playing, but LOVE his r&r soul!!

I'm old. Thanks fer askin'

ps > Robert Knight was more of a fan of Jeff Beck and Rod & Faces. Good guy! :)

I like the Dead.

I also had an opportunity to see the Pumpkins last August. It was fun.

Young lady, Jeffo said, "I always thought that the Smashing Pumpkins pretty much sucked to be honest." This is what is known as stating an opinion. You are free to agree or disagree.

Your claim that Smashing Pumpkins is one "of the greatest bands of all frikken [sic] time" is what we call an assertion; i.e. an opinion presented as though it were a fact.

Kindly learn the difference, and please try to communicate in a more intelligent and adult manner if you wish to be taken seriously. Thank you.

Mona Lisa, what russianracehorse says is correct.
We all have opinions here as too, what we like and prefer above others.
Most of us accept the opinions of others as well, we like to promote a freedom of speech and expression here.
By all means, make your point but accept the same of others.

I don't know if this is strictly local or if it's syndicated, but a local classic rock station (WCMF, former home of Brother Wease) has a program called "The Dead Zone" on every Sunday at 9.

http://www.wcmf.com/pages/1777585.php

It may be syndicated (other shows are), but you can also listen online. Be aware of the time difference, though, this is based in Rochester, NY.

Mona Lisa,
Have fun here and enjoy yourself, I think youth brings a breath of fresh air into the forum and I am sure you will have much to contribute.
Yes, some of us are old guys but we are not grumpy old guys really, we just like everyone to share respect. I'm sure you know.
Anyway, do you have a guitar?.....Tell us about it, show us some pics.
And welcome to the forum, it's good to have you here.
Youth is our future.
