GC= All guitars have old strings, major blemishes and are mostly models that are over a year old. Then they sell you them as though there "hot off the truck".

I'm sticking with ma & pa shops.

I'm not a big fan of GC, but I must say, with all of these stories of people getting ripped off by them, I actually took them for $100. I got an '08 Am. Std, in Sienna Sunburst. That color is supposed to be $100 extra, but the geniuses at GC didn't even know what they were selling. Thanks guys!

Forget GC. They are a joke. The only thing that I use them for is to try out new equipment then I order online from Sweetwater or Musicians Friend.

Do you realise that Musician's Friend is a Guitar Center-owned company, and any orders from Music123, Musician's Friend, or Guitar Center website ship from the same warehouse?

That said, I have no problem with Guitar Center. I prefer to shop at a local store when I can, but Guitar Center has never done anything wrong by me. I rarely get asked if I need any help, but to me, that's a great thing. I hate walking into a store and being asked four times if I need any help.

The only issue I have is that they like to sell the guitar off the rack, which has been played dozens of times, but in most cases, they have more in the back and are happy going to get them. It just takes a few minutes for them to find it.

You have to know which people know what they're talking about. At my store, there are two people I go to every time. There's another one who can't seem to tell the headstock from the strap button. He's the one who knocked a Les Paul off of a stand while moving a ladder. I caught it, and cut my hand.

Most of the time, I've been able to find manuals to download online. I've downloaded manuals for Fender amps from this (Fender ) website, was well as a guitar specific manual to my '72 Fender Thinline Tele. I received the generic Fender manual for that guitar when it arrived, but the guitar has some unique features that are different, so I went to this site, and found a downloadable manual for the actual '72 Thinline. You should check out this site first.

The other advantage is......The downloadable manual is in my laptop computer, so that when I travel with that guitar or one of my amps.....I have the manual right with me, if needed.

Guitar Center and Musicians Friend are owned by the same company, True. But at an ill-managed Guitar Center the guitars are tested to the point of being Gently Used or worse. From any online store they usually come Fresh from the warehouse. You only have to worry about factory defects.

I agree. I've seen so many scratches on the guitars at GC. As well as signs of wear. I've purchased three guitars on Musician's Friend, and have always received the guitars in perfect condition and untouched by human hands, since the Factory. Also......I save on sales tax that way, which can save me quite a bit on expensive purchases.

I've had many a bad experience in a GC. I finally found a mom & pop music store that has everything and will order anything. Two times in the store and they know you by name. Go in on a Saturday and the amount of merchandise flying out the door is incredible. GC could only hope to move that much equipment. Plus, when you get to the register, they always knock something off the price.

Aside from the bad purchasing experiences I had at GC, the most irratating thing is the 20 kids who know one riff who just sit there with an amp cranked up playing it over and over till my head explodes. These geniuses have no intention of buying the guitar or amp they are playing, and insure nobody else will either. Oh, and that's why all of the guitars are scratched up.

Ditto ... which I why I have them get me a fresh one (while I hold on to the one on display ...) and then I check that out before buying. The exception would be a special deal where whatever I see wrong (if anything) is outweighed by the price.

My biggest gripe about GC is lack of customer service training. Sorry, but just because I don't look like a rocker or naive mom or dad with young teen kid ready to max out the Visa doesn't mean I don't buy. They'll be all over the "deer in the headlights" parents with the platinum card or the rocker who's handing out lines about his "soon to come" album. But as I've learned in almost 40 years of C.S. -- you cannot ever ignore anyone. Don't go by appearances!

Bottom line: there are a couple of people at my local GC who recognize me and I usually walk if they're not there. Local stores are great, but unfortunately, GC has pretty much wiped them out here where I live.

Seems like everytime I go to GC, I have to do the "May I Help You" riff
:D :D :D

I only go to GC or SamAsh to try stuff out or if I know exactly what I want so I can get in and out pronto and not have to deal with any of the help. Once I find what I'm looking for I just order from MusiciansFriend. Otherwise I just go to the locally owned music stores for what I need. As for owners manuals I can usually find them online or sometimes they're not so useful anyway.

After my experience this past weekend, from now on I'm either going to order from AMS, because their delivery service is the best, or I'll just go to Daddy's Junky Music where I ahve shopped in the past and have gotten great deals and treated with respect. Screw Guitar Center.

I am with you Jeffo46. I spend my time (many hours if I have the chance) at Capitol Guitar. One of the two owners is always there - they can get me anything I need, and they are just darn nice guys............

Hello All,

I guess I'm lucky cause my local
Guitar Center{Langhorne, Pa},
is staffed with some good folks
and I have always been treated well.

I shop the big stores and the little ones,
you'll catch more bees with honey.

Cheers.

I have so many bad GC stories it's not even funny. Heres my most recent one. I go there to buy some strings and I am just getting two sets, and the guy was like, buy three sets and I'll give you a discount, and I am like sure whatever. I end up paying around $17.50. Later that day, I was at circuit city helping my dad with something, and right next door, there is a music store. So after I helped him I just walked over to look around in it. I then saw a deal for getting 3 sets of the exact same strings, for only $12.25. I was pretty annoyed.
