I rarely buy new CDs. I have an order in on Amazon for both the Racontuers CDs & a Rundgren, Liars. If a band or songwriter is playing/writing stuff I think is good, then I will support them and their efforts by buying their stuff and going to their concerts.

I do not buy into supporting the major record companies.

I mostly borrow CDs from my friend's kids to listen to what's new and download songs I like. VERY rarely am I hearing new bands where I would buy a whole CD of their stuff. Just not consistent enough with their songwriting prowess.

But yeah, I'm old - definitely playin' the back nine, but not in the friggin' grave yet!!

Buy art - steal music

I buy most of my cd's off of ebay, can usually get a good deal there on used cd's. If I can't find there I'll buy new if I really want it, not so into downloading songs.

Whenever I can afford, I'll buy a good CD...
But I don't need to have every disk from every band I like.
Only a few from each, the really good uns.

I still buy CDs though not in the same numbers as a few years ago. I buy mostly my favorite bands, but I'll take a chance and buy a CD at a live show to help out the band, too. Just rec'd the "Beano" CD for Christmas so I'm still replacing some of my favorite vinyl, also.

I download mp3's from Amazon mostly. Haven't bought a whole mp3 album yet.

I buy lots of CDs. I should own stock in Amazon...and I cannot pass a store with used CDs (CD Warehouse, Digital Planet)

I still purchase CDs. Once in a while, I'll download music... then burn to a CD for back up. I even have a collection of cassettes that I have purchased over the years.... but those days are long gone.

If I can live without the liner notes, I download it. If I can't live without the liner notes I buy the CD.

I got the brilliant idea to use a guitar cord to patch my cassette deck to my PC's guitar interface to digitize the songs. Then I thought I'd use some editing software to clean up the hiss and other artifacts. Came up with the idea just a bit too late. The south Florida humidity had already taken its toll on the deck's motor. I set everything up and hit Play only to find the motor was frozen.

Still have the tapes, though.

I have never downloaded a song. I will buy a CD or get a friend to burn a copy for me.

I buy CDs depending on how much I like an artist, or how soon I need a song.

I host a radio show, so if an hour before I go on the air I decide I need something I don't already have, I buy it from iTunes.

To be clear, when I say "download," I mean "buy legally from an online music store," not "steal." I have little respect for a musician who wants to be paid for their work but doesn't want to pay for someone else's.

For instance - Sara Bareilles. I am in love with this woman. I have all three records on CD, one of them on vinyl, and a fourth I bought online, since it was an iTunes exclusive.

I have The Beatles on CD - although I have no choice.

Sometimes a deal is just too good to pass up - like when iTunes was selling Pet Sounds for $5. Unfortunately, I didn't really like that record.

My CD collection has grown considerably over the past year or so.

The other aspect is that if you have an opportunity to meet a musician, what are you going to ask them to sign - your iPod? That's another benefit of CDs, or other physical media.

I stopped when my CD collection got to around 700 disks.
Now I only try to pick up DVD audio or DVD video music disks..
Like the multi channel sound, can't wait for properly recorded blu-ray music disks !

Will also buy vinyl if I find anything real good. :D
