Have you ever been playing guitar and got so into it that you just kept going and you didn't stop for hours? You just forget that your playing and you make the sweetest sounds you've ever heard. It's a great feeling. I want to know if alot of people do this, or if I'm crazy.

You're not crazy Drew, it's a place I'm often in. Enjoy it to the full, connect with that new Strat.

Oh yeah. A month or two ago, I bought one of these: http://yamaha.ca/content/guitar/products/electricguitars/SA503%20TVL/keyfeatures.jsp

This and my strat let me get to that zone almost every time I play. It's wonderful. They're my electric babies.

Yeahhhhh ... it's a great feeling. One time, I went out onto my patio at around 10 PM and got into this blues groove. All of a sudden, it dawned on me that it was pretty chilly and then I noticed that mist was settling on me. That more or less broke the groove and prompted me to walk inside and look at the time -- 1:45 AM! Unbelievable, but that's the power of playing and just "being" in that slot!

Been there a few times, lost track of the time a few times also. It is what I call being one with my instrument.

Yeah!! I've been in 'the zone' many times, a lot of the time when I'm playing my Gretsch electro acoustic. I just start off playing what I call my 'jazz fusion' which is anything and everything all mixed together, with classical, jazz and blues runs all thrown in the same pot.
It's great fun and I go on for hours, nobody else in the house understands it, so I........frown on them.

I have been getting into that zone a lot lately. I remember most of what I doodle, however, I sometimes wish I had recorded it for those times I forget.

Pick a day to do nothing except for playing the guitar. No school work, day off from work, no presentations, no kids, no wife, no shopping, I mean nothing. If you are in School, pick summer or winter vacation to do this. Throw that damn clock away too (at least put it in the closet). Also turn off the cell phone. This will be the day you play. Just play, let yourself go. Hopefully you get into "the zone". Most of all, have fun.

There was a time when I used to throw a blank cassette into the tape deck and hit record and just start playing, anything, from ' the zone '
And then, later, play it back and there could be some very interesting stuff coming back, some nice little riffs that I would utilize into my compositions.
I did a few songs that way.

Hmm I'm gonna try that somewhere in the next week! It's winter vacation now. Thanks.
I guess my life's too hectic.

Yeah, that's key - you need to have uninterrupted time, at least a couple of hours free. Otherwise you'll think, "Oh, I need to do this/that..."

I almost got in the zone yesterday, but my father knocked on my door...
I was playing unplugged I figured that was the only way I would get in the zone, coz that's what I always do, when I put my amp on I start playing real carefully, because I'm really afraid of making mistakes when people can hear me.

read bout that in my new topic:"unpluggers"
