I'm looking for a compact budget PA and noticed the Squier 4 channel Pa system. It won't be for playing out, if so just very small venues like little parties, maybe 30 people or so and just for fun.
We need 2 mic inputs so do I need Phantom power(not sure what that means)?
Anyway 2 singers top and the biggest guitar amp is a Fender 65 watt or so and my bass amp is the Bassman 250/210. So 1 bass, 3 guitars, and drums.
We never crank it or even come close. We just need something to sing through so the vocals can be heard over "the electrics". We never needed a PA before because we usually use acoustics and just my Precision or Geddy, no drums.
So would the Squier be o.k. for this application?
1 bass
3 guitars
1 drum
I'm looking for a "budget" PA but a decent one that will last for a while. We don't do this often as for as electric "jams"...so what do you think?
Thanks.
We're just fat old guys having fun. The youngest is 45 and the oldest is 61.

We, myself and my drummer, bought this for our jam room. We ended up returning it. IMO it cannot handle the bass frequencies properly, usually distorting and farting out around the 10-11 o'clock volume position. I was not happy with it. YMMV

I was afraid you'd say that. I'm trying to find something around the $300-$400 range since I'll be getting it by myself.
How about the Fender Passport P.A. 250 watt?

That's all we tried out, back to individual instrument amps/cabs. Both my guitarist and I like it better that way. Sorry I can't be more help.

zod - were you putting all the instruments through it w/o amps? I think djflats wants to use it for just vocals ...

I am an idiot at times, well most of the time. Totally missed the vocals part.
I just ran my bass straight thru there and was not happy with the tone and lack of volume before distortion/farting. I love my drummer, but he is a heavy hitter when he gets on his acoustic kit cause he practices on a Roland electric, so I've got to turn up to be heard. We did sing thru it, though neither one of us can sing, me especially.

Yes, we were just going to use it for vocals. The guitars and my bass will just go through our own amps.

So you think the Squier would be ok for that...just vocals?

I've used my Squier 4 channel 85watt mono PA for pre-amping recording mics, and for monitrs off of a Yamaha 10 channel Mixing Board. It would be good for just sining, or micing an acoustic and sining. But I woouldn't mic drums and bass, or electric guitar.

On your budget, you could get something like this...
http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Phonic-Powerpod-620-Plus-S710-PA-Package?sku=630486

...which is more powerful, and stereo. The Squier has better sound quality, bit something like that will be louder.

The Phonics does look good. I guess it's between that and the Squier. We don't crank our amps so we're not real loud. I'm just wondering if the Squier would let the vocals cut through, using it only for vocals.

All the user comments seem to indicate that the Phonic will work very well and to me it looks like a better value for the money vs the Squier ...

The reviews on the Phonic are pretty good.
