Hey guys. I'm working on my '66 Telecaster, and I've gotten to the control panel. It's a complete mess. It's going to have to be rewired, so I was wonderiing, about how much would a repair shop charge for installing new pickups and rewiring the control panel? Thanks :D

Locally to me I have seen $48-$60 per pickup. That's one of the reasons I learned to do it myself.

I've seen about the same and did the same as Chet.

For the amount of work involved in installing the pickups and re-wiring, the shops make quite a bit.

It'd be worth the time, I think, to buy a soldering iron and find the wiring diagrams online. Even if you mess it up, it's only a matter of removing the solder and trying again.

A 66 is one nice Telecaster. It would be nice to keep stock if you can. 8) Mike

+1. It won't hurt to fix the wiring back to stock IF it's already boogered up (what'd they do to it?), but unless the pickups are trashed I'd be inclined to leave them be. If you do take out the pickups, make sure you wrap them up well and don't lose them, they're worth bucks and make the guitar worth more bucks, too--provided it's an otherwise original '66 Tele and that the pickups are original, too.

When I bought the EMG's for my Ventura, the guitar store installed them for free for buying the Pu's from them. Talk to your vendor!
