I like just about everything except opera. Too much vibrato, but I understand the acoustic physics of why it's sung that way. And I don't razz those who do like it!

I grew up listening to jazz and rock mostly.

Like old country and classical as well. World and ethnic music is great as well.

I like pretty much anything that sounds good (to me) and is done tastefully with good songwriting, hooks and decent musicians.

Pretty much anything done well. I appreciate a lot of ethnic music from all over.

Techno is strange. Some of the things I've heard people do in just Fruity Loops is amazing, and sounds great. But most, where you have ONE thing going on forever, is terrible from a music standpoint.

Rap in any form sucks to me. I can't relate to someone just mindlessly rattling off words to a canned drum beat that sounds like every other one, except for maybe "that one extra beat". Terrible.

The others I do like: some Jazz, Bluegrass, some Country, Rock, Blues, Folk, Fingerstyle, Motown, I even like a lot of pop that most "guitar players" don't like.

I listen to just about everything - the blues are my favorite, and opera is the one area where there are very few particular ones that I like enough to go and see or own.

As for playing (or at least attempting to play) - Blues, Country, Folk and Rock. :P

(Edited to add Folk )

I totally agree. Opera is the one type of music I have a hard time listening to. The voices just seem so unnatural to me. Having said that, there are millions of opera fans out there and they seem to think differently.

Folk, blues, folk rock, rock and surf.......these are a few of my favourite things.

I'm Blues/Rock man mainly but I listen to all kinds of music, just about anything and everything really. Not too fond of reggae, funky stuff and rap though.

Depends on the mood that I'm in on any particular day. It can run the gamut from classical to thrash, with a lot of blues in between. I even have a couple of death metal albums that were done by guys I know. I gues the correct answer is the I just like music.

Most anything, including classical, old school jazz, big band era, classic rock, blues (rural and electric), some funk and fusion. But I also listen to modern country, a little traditional country, blue grass, some metal (but not too far in that direction) and folk.

On the other hand, I just never could get into electronica or most "new age" music. And rap is not music so it doesn't count.

What I actually play on the other hand is old country, some folk, blues (traditioinal and electric), jazz (mostly a modern style) and some big band era standards. In the late 60s through mid-70s, I was the lead guitarist in what we'd now call a "classic rock" band but I rarely play any of that stuff. For one, I don't remember it and for two, my parts don't sound like much with a single guitarist/non-singer.

Yeah, +1 to that -- except also add in progressive rock. I love Yes, Rush, 1970s Genesis, and Dream Theater (well, at least Images & Words and Awake)
