Did we ever decide who the best was? We should form a committee to look into it.

I have gotten sick of most of the polls in general, even at one time posting a poll on whether or not we should have polls.

I dislike and hate any poll that asks the best or has a Fender guitar VS some other brand guitar...DUH, this is a Fender forum, what do you think will come out on top? Those types of polls make about as much sense as asking Harley-Davidson OR Imports on a Harley-Davidson forum, or asking Ford OR Chevy on a Ford Forum. Even Ray Charles could see what those results would be on those polls...

Even better, a government committee! Yep, that's right ... something as vital as "who's the best" simply cannot be left to the masses. Give 'em a few million, let them appoint the usual impartial (= well connected) committee members, load 'em with a generous per diem, a personal car, liberal travel benefits and tell them to report back by 2039.

That's the only way. I always get tripped up by such factors as subjectivity, mood and other real world factors. But the proposed government committee will no doubt decisively find THE answer to "who's the best guitarist ever."

Philip, I think you're on to something here. It's enough to make me get back into politics!

Totally agree. On something as important in nature as this, I don't see how a committee can be avoided. Of course the question is, "How do we form the committee?" Should they be appointed? By whom? If we elect them, will we all have 1 vote? Will there be campains launched? Can people just volunteer?

It seems pretty clear to me that,if we are to form this comittee, it deserves some thought. We should probably initiate a small, informal group for a sort of a "think tank".

Line forms to the left.

I think we should have a poll
Should there be a committee?

Should there NOT be a committee?

Then I think we should have a committee to review the votes followed by at least one recount

I've often wondered the mind set of people who have to categorize this way. Let's face it, if for example, Jeff Beck was undisputedly the #1 guitarist, then everyone else by necessity wouldn't be as good so we wouldn't be as receptive to anything they did. Consequently, we'd be left with not only Jeff Beck competing against himself, but in time, unless he can constantly and consistently outdo himself, he'd become a secondary bore too. Which begs the question:

Why can't many people be uniquely phenomenal and inspiring in their own right, exclusibe of, "good, better, best" labels?

also, give us new beings a shot at earning posts too! if they annoy you so much, ignore them.
You can't help some things.
damn I'm full of wisdom today.

Although I agree people should be more specific, like "what musician changed the world the most" instead of "who's the best musician"

I generally don't do the "who's the best" type of posts.

I like 'em. It's a good place for weak attempts at inappropriate humor.

One liner's, Monty Python quotes, Nigel Tufnel references, and pictures of Hot Chicks would end up in serious threads without the Who's Best threads.

I have to agree here. I like "favorite" questions. "what is your favorite intro riff", "favorite guitar solo" etc.
The answers often times either jog some old brain cells or lead me to listen to some new songs or artists....
