Whew! Took a bit of doing to track down this thread!

I'm a 56-year-old geezer who's been plucking around since his teenage years, first on an old Silvertone that took three people to make a bar chord on. I've banged around over the years, ending up with an old Yamaha acoustic that's been sitting in the corner for the past couple of years.

I have a 14-year-old son who got caught up in the whole Guitar Hero/RockBand craze; his mom got him a Behringer starter package for Christmas. Observing his excitement in playing a real guitar took me back to my own youth, and the urge has hit me again. I recently purchased a MIM Strat HSS (Arctic White), and when that's paid off plan on picking up an Ash Standard Tele and maybe a G-DEC (I'm using a Line 6 Spider III at present).

After lurking for a bit, this looks like a great forum with a knowledgable base of posters (other than the troll; why would someone troll a guitar forum of all places?), so I hope to learn a little as well as have a bit of fun.

I'm Pat and going on 53 and just starting to learn guitar. My wife's name is Pat also, she is younger than me by 7 years hence the Old Pat handle she is Pretty Pat to family and friends. Since I was about 8 I have wanted to learn to play guitar but for a lack of funds and activities required by the family ranch I did not get the opportunity to learn. At 52 (a couple of months ago) I decided it was now or never took out a Fender 3210 SX accoustic my wife bought me and a learn to play guitar book and started. I now have a MIM standard HSS because I could.

I was born and raised in San Francisco, California (I was around for the "summer of love"). I still live in the San Francisco area, most of the time, but have another home in the Sierra Nevada Mountains (California Gold Rush country) I've pretty much spent most of my time living in the San Francisco area, with the exception of four years, which I spent in the U.S. Air Force, working on the SR-71, and AC130 Gunship.

I started out with piano as a kid. I was in a Catholic School, so my teacher was a nun. I have a digital piano now, and still goof around with it, when the mood strikes me.

As I got older I started out as a drummer, and played in a number of rock and blues bands. When in those bands, the guitar players began to show me little things, here and there, and perked my interest in playing the guitar. I tinkered with the guitar over the years, but nothing too serious. I was just having fun with it.

I retired four years ago......so now I have lots of time to play around with the guitar. My neighbor in the mountains is an excellent lead guitar player (he loves the blues), so he got me back into playing the guitar since I've retired. The two of us have spent a lot of time playing together. We've also teamed up with a bass player and drummer and have had some fun times Jamming. We're currently looking to form a band (just for some fun). Since playing in the last four years I have bought two strats and a tele, along with a tube amp. So it looks like this time it might stick.

There's no hidden or clever meaning of the name Syeklops. I just needed a name to get into this forum.......and......well.......that's what I came up with.

Welcome to the Forums

jbond, oldpat, Syeclops, and Poorboy.

One thing I've always loved about music, it spans the generational gaps.

Oohhh never spotted this thread before.

I'm Stu. 21 years old, been playing almost 2 years now. I live in Scotland. Music is my passion, which I discovered along with some other revelations after some enlightening experiences on mushrooms. I'm a proud stoner, and next to playing / listening to music my hobbies are reading (Kerouac, Camus, Dostoevsky especially) and working out. Oh, my ambitions are to enjoy life, keep jamming, explore the world and myself, and somewhere down the line write a book.

I'm Robert i've been around for 16 years, and i've been playing since last october. I own a deluxe players strat in saphire blue, a sigma (branch of martin) 12 string from somewhere between 85 and 89. I live in Rogers AR, and i'm the first person in my family to be born here (the rest of them are from Iowa). One day I would like to be a guitar luthier, but if that doesn't work out i'll teach algebra like I was originally going to do. By the way I'm in 11th grade right now.

I realized that I never formally introduced myself on this thread... my name is Perry, I've been playing for about 2 1/2 years, give or take a bit. My favorite guitarist is Stevie Ray, but I listen and admire most guitar playing/music (notice I said MOST). I hope to someday go big and start another blues revival, but I would be cool with just making. 8)

My name is John. 55 years old. Married, 2 kids grown, 2 dogs. My handle is for my broken and out of commission 1966 Cushman Scooter. Started playing guitar in the 60's, did the teenage garage band thing. Played only acoustic until this 1993. This was mainly because I was in the Army and an acoustic was easier to lug around. Got the itch again and started playing again this year but this time all electric. Retired Army 21 years, retired Honolulu Police Department Reserve Officer 21 years, Work for the Department of Public Safety for the last 15 as the Department Firearms Training Specialist. Basically, I teach people to shoot, fix guns and write policies and lesson plans. My life pretty much revolves around guns since I have been shooting from about age 7 so getting back to music is my stress relief and my non-violent side LOL!! PS: Im not politically correct since I smoke and drink too much coffee.
