Little Brother that may be a question more appropriate for the Bass specific forum. However I was in Guitar Center with my son about a month back and if I remember correctly I saw a USA Stingray there for around $1000.

No but the salesguy said it was a "demo" (whatever that means since most everything in GC gets messed with by everyone)

Check out the Fender Big Block Precision Bass.

It has a single pickup (with active electronics) positioned in a similar position the Musicman. This should give the bass a similar tone as with the Musicman bass.

One problem, the only color offered is black.

Good news, the Fender Big Block Precision Bass has street prices from $775 up to $799. Shop around for the best deal.

I play bass, a lot, and have for years. I know Stingrays and Sterlings are great basses. Lots of people love them, they have great tone, and they're very well made. I don't really like the feel of them. That wide flat fretboard doesn't suit me at all, but that's a personal preference. I do like Warwicks, though. Very versatile, great wood, great tone, mean growl, just an excellent bass.

Of all the basses I could have, I love Jazz basses. I tried NOT to like them. I already have a few Fenders, I didn't want to be partial. I wanted to really pick the best one that was suited for me. I kept coming back to that Jazz bass. I love that neck on it, and that tone. Get a Deluxe, even the MIM deluxe with active noiseless pickups, and they're amazing basses. I can't put it down when I play it.

But again, it's a personal preference. When I play bass, I need a great versatile tone I can play $@!& on, some sexy jazz lines or just use that tone for any style I play.
