Wow, how did I miss this thread. Hands down, Randy Rhoads and then Zakk Wylde. Of course if you are Ozzy, you can only have the best guitarists in your band.

:D I like Randy the best because when I listen to what he played back in the eightys live and then I listen to Ozzys newest guitarists Randys has alot better sound. If Randy wouldn"t have died so early more people would call him "The Best Guitarist Ever". The reason Randy was so good was he would take classical guitar whem he could. I think Randy Rhoads is oneof the most awesome guitarists ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JOE HOLMES!

JUST KIDDING!

Tony Iommi and Randy Rhoads tie for first...then Jake E Lee, then Brad Gillis, then Joe Holmes, and finally Zakk Wylde...

I used to be a real big Zakk fan when No Rest for the Wicked first came out nearly 20 years ago, but Zakk started to become annoying when he started putting too many unnecessary pinch harmonics and bends on every single song he plays on, whether its his own or someone elses...It was cool once or twice in a song, but its just gotten ridiculous now. That, and I have gotten really annoyed by the pseudo-wannabe biker gang leader who talks like he has a little bit of liquid that he cannot spit or swallow in his mouth who most people know as Zakk Wylde. 8)

Why wasn't Tony included in the poll? I cast all 27 electoral votes for Tony Iommi.

That's easy my Brother. . . . .Ozzy was Tony's vocalist in Sabbath, Tony wasn't his guitarist. I hold Sabbath seperate from Ozzys solo work.

Tony is one of my favorite guitarists. The man has the perfect massive sound for metal and in my opinion that is way more important than a bunch of "flash without substance".

The tri tone intro to Black Sabbath still gives me the shivers.

I like Tony a lot, but overall Randy was my fav. I like Zakk, but totally agree on the pinch harmonics being over done. Jake was a great player, but that era of Ozzie never grabbed me. I don't like thin over-processed sounding guitar either, and Jake used that sound a lot. The interesting thing is Randy, Jake and Zack used a lot of pinch harmonics with Ozzie as well. Zack is by far the biggest user of them. I wonder if its an Ozzie thing? Does Zakk use pinch harmonics that much outside of Ozzie?

Randy played with so much passion even when being completely heavy and brutal. I think he was a special player that we may never see the likes of again. It's easy to be heavy, agreesive and brutal, it's hard to be heavy, aggresive and passionate. Come to think of it, I am not sure anyone else had/has that combination.

Flyin High is a great example of this, the song rocks, but there is a almost blues feel going on at the same time. There is a lot of emotion going on in the rhythm for being a faster heavy song.

Randy all the way, even though Jake was probably the most technically proficient, he just did not move me. Ozzie was never the same again after Randy died, and the songs suffered big time IMHO

Randy rhodes without a shadow of a doubt.
Diary of a madman was the best album ozzy has ever done.
Ozzy will never have a bad guitarist in his band, zakk wylde is an amazing guitarist as was jake e lee and brad gillis but its rhodes for me, its just a shame he had to die so young with all that talent ( gobshite of a pilot ).

I was never fortunate enough to see randy live but i have seen all the other guitarists he has had, i saw zakk wylde in manchester, england when he first joined ozzy and ozzy was touring the small venues over here to get him used to crowds and he was awesome but it soon went to his head and he became very arrogant which is something i dont like and i've never been a fan of wylde since, saying that he is a great guitar player but as i play bass, i dont really listen to a lot of guitarists these days.

Rhandy Rhoads is the person who inspired me to play guitar, so I pick him.
