Jake E Lee and Brad Gilles do not deserve one vote. Better than Randy??? Puh - leeeeze. Zak, though, is another story ...

Okay I voted for Jake.
I've always appreciated his more understated approach to guitar.
If you can get the job done with a handful of notes, why bother with all the nonsense.

Randy was an incredible talent that was taken from us too soon. I am in no way downplaying his skill or his influential role in the evolution of rock guitar. He's just not my favorite Ozzy guitarist.

Zakk needs to get over the pinch harmonics. It's a habit that for my taste has become way to common in his playing. Like any other guitar "trick" it should enhance the performance, not become a routine.

Brad, I threw him in there just because he filled in for a short while.

Randy was my inspiration to play. The melodies, the TONE, the speed, the use of feedback, the scales - he was just perfection to me. Still is for me, in that style. He's my fave of Ozzy's.

Brad - Great player, no doubt. Fast, tremendous control over the notes. One of the cleanest techniques I've heard, and he uses a ton of gain. Expert with the trem bar. Very cool.

Jake. Never thought anyone could replace Randy. I loved the whole Bark at the Moon album. His VERY different tone, the use of flanger (which I hadn't heard with that style much), and the great playing he did on many songs (rock and roll rebel, now you see it now you don't, etc). His playing on that album still inspires me when I hear it.

Zakk. He's good. I know a lot of people love him. When I hear him - on any recording, I heard this: basic chords, fast playing, the same 4 sign riffs or so, and that super wide/fast squeal harmonic - and that's all I hear. I can recognize that he's a good player, but personally, I get nothing out of his playing whatsoever. Other than a riff or something I might want to use, nothing new or unique that inspires me at all. I hear one of his songs, and I've heard them all. That's just my opinion though.

I've never been a big fan of Ozzy or Black Sabbath, although I did see BS live once. Their support act blew them off the stage, a little know band called Van Halen 8) I digress though, I heard an Ozzy tune in the car the other day. I found myself turning it up loud. I don't know the name of the song, the DJ did say it was Ozzy's first solo tune and Randy played on it. Any of you guys know the tune I'm talking about? I'd love to get a hold of it, thanks in advance.

My Guess is probably one of the more radio-played ones from Blizzard of Oz (his first solo album), like...

I Don't Know
Goodbye to Romance
Mr Crowley
Crazy Train.....

The album in full, for you to youtube or look into further...

Side one

1. "I Don't Know" – 5:16
2. "Crazy Train" – 4:56
3. "Goodbye to Romance" – 5:36
4. "Dee" (Instrumental) (Rhoads) – 0:50
5. "Suicide Solution" – 4:21

[edit] Side two

6. "Mr. Crowley" – 4:55
7. "No Bone Movies" (Osbourne, Rhoads, Daisley, Lee Kerslake) – 3:53
8. "Revelation (Mother Earth)" – 6:09
9. "Steal Away (The Night)" – 3:28

If I could sum up Zakk's style in one sentence, it would be...

Beedeedoo, beedeedoo, beedeedoo, beedeedoo, WOWOWOWOWOW!!!

... and that's pretty much every solo I've ever hear him play, with Ozzy and BLS.

Randy was def the best, but I would be happy if I could play as well as any of the others on the list

Blizzard of Oz, IMO, was the album that defined what Ozzie could really do as a singer.

I find zak a bit bland too. Randy i find too classical for rock n roll. To the point that i dont enjoy the song for listening to what he's doing, not that its bad. More because its so far removed from typical metal ala priest, maiden and such.
Jake 'e' Lee had a very hard possition to fill, he pulled it off superbly and for that gets my vote.

I totaly agree with what you said about Jake. He was capable of playing as many Notes-per-second as the fastestt 80's guitar slinger, but he worked out his leads to suit the song instead of showing off. His Solo album is sort of "Jazz Metal", very cool.

Brad played on my third favorite Ozzy album, and got Ozzy thru a very tough time. Ozzy almost quit after Randy got killed. He picked Brad Gillis to play on that next Album and Tour because he and Oz were good friends. He totally deserves mention.

Zacks one of the best Riffer's in Modern Metal, but not as good as Randy. And yeah, enough with the pinch Harmonics.

My Vote goes to randy 'cause he wrote the Best Riffs, Ripped the Best leads, and most of all, played Flawless Fills. What he did with "Children of the Grave" on Tribute shows his command of Rythm and Lead, and Showcases the Lead Fills.

I'm pretty sure the First Single was Mr. Crowely off of Blizzard of Ozz. I think Crazy Train was Second.

On Jake E Lee... Your point is valid. I was a pretty decent fan of his back in the day. I liked some of the Ozzy stuff. I really liked Badlands alot, considering Badlands to be still a great listen and not so dated even now. What killed all my respect for Jake E Lee, though, was Wicked Aliance. Back in the early '90s, as a serious Jake fan, I wento go see him live. Evidently this was the beginning stage of Wicked Alliance. They were sooooo bad. And Jake's playing was sooooo bad , the first time I ever saw him live. Ever since then, I have always considered Jake capable of good riff or a nice solo in the studio. But this guy was nowhere near Rhoades (for the record, I saw RR twice, too).

Just my opinion/ observation...
