From that list I'd have to say Jimi Hendrix!

If I have to pick from that list it's Hendrix . . . and it's not even close.

Hendrix on that list, by a country mile

off list: David Sancious over all, or maybe Keith Emerson

I'm gonna have to go with Randy Rhoads on this topic. I love how he was capable of playing multiple styles of guitar, and taking all of that and putting it together, combining with one killer guitar tone, to really revolutionize metal at that time. Plus, he influenced so many other guitarists, like Zakk Wylde. Of course, Hendrix and the others on this list are incredible too.
Off this list I would have to say Kurt Cobain, Michael Stipe, David Gilmour, Clapton, and Al Di Meola are probably my personal favorite musicians.

here is my chance to start an internet rumor. He played this guitar in the early 80's and at the end of the show he bit the headstock off.

He's referring to my post asking why Ozzy is in a guitarist poll.

Read the posts and it starts to make sense.

mthorn00, I cleaned up your comment above (received a few abuse reports due to it) but also note that the original question asked who's your favorite musician, not who's your fav guitarist.

Of those mentioned, probably Ozzy, and that would include Randy since they were co-writers (kind of a strange selection of people).

Jimi - always great. Super sloppy player, and played out of tune, and didn't have the best technique, but he was very originally, brilliant, and bold as hell with the way he played. You could say so many other guitar players are "better" than him technically and you'd be right. That's not the point though. He did things nobody else did back then, and took guitar in such a different direction, the world of guitar today would be totally different if it weren't for him.

Vai - Other that appreciating his technical ability, I was never a bit fan. To me, he plays a lot of crap. Just goofy stuff for the sake of being goofy, and I can't relate to that. At least not a whole career based on that. I have about 6 of his CDs, probably more, and can honestly say I almost never listen to them, and like maybe 2 or 3 things that he's done across his career.
