The musician who most changed the world was the first person who liked the sound of hitting a hollow log and wondered how he could make a different sound. Everything else is just refinements on that basic idea.

I'm surprised Bono isn't on this list.

Nah. After Cher left him, Sonny didn't really do that much.

Oh, not that Bono?

No jive.

He is the first one verified as using the five-line staff to write musical notation.

Personal feeling is, one would have to go pretty durn far to beat Fra Guido's contribution to music.

The moderns? "Ah blow mah nose at them. Ah faht in their general direction."

yeah good point and a nice quote from monty pythons holy grail...

but if you start to think like this, you could also say that the first neanderthaler who beat some chunk of wood with a bone ( or a neanderhal friend, for that matter) was the man who changed music the most, by inventing it...

If we are going to explore this avenue, then the first person to use Fra Guidos's five line staff is at least as important as Guido. Without a Flame, the spark is meaningless.

If he hadn't inspired the empty headed animal food trough wiper's, he would have been just another Novelty Monk.
