Have any of you attempted to learn guitar online? I heard it's tough but I have a friend that can help me too (to stop me from getting any bad habits).

I found a site: http://guitarboost.com/ that has a lot helpful stuff.

Do you guys have any recommendations (guitar books, ect) or experiences that would help me out? Thanks.

There`s nothing like one on one instruction in person. When you watch a video it can`t tell you what your doing wrong. And the online sites that advertise " free instructions " only gets you to the first few notes before you have to enter your credit card number.

Hello.

I find this site usefull:

www.ivideosongs.com

There are a lot of free lessons (electric and acoustic) as well as some very good video lessons. Some great guitarplayers explaining and teaching you their songs! (Alex Lifeson, to mention one). These lesson are not for free, but you can buy them for a reasonable price.

Good luck

MH

There are a lot of them if you search the Google, or youtube or itunes podcasts.

All with basics lessons to get the beginner going but not much after that without paying, and they don't help correct any bad habits you manage to develop watching them and seeing wrong :)

I concur with the previous post, nothing beats good in person lessons from a qualified teacher.

if you don't have the free time, or money, for an instructor, try the Rock House guitar lesson book/dvd. I used the first one and it taught me all the basics on my schedule.

I've got the second book waiting for me as soon as I finish the Iron Man lesson from Guitar World :)
