I'm not a regular but a few times a year I take the time to do it. Although I hope that nobody will be unlucky enough to need a transfusion, the blood will be there. It's an anonymous contribution and I'm very proud to do it. On the funny side, my group is A positive, it is the only time in my life that I had an A+ at anything. This topic was intended to be a general reminder for anyone who can give blood. If you can, please, do it. Happy Holidays.

Claude.

That's funny - I donated this morning as well! I was a sort-of regular about 12 years ago, and had a bad experience once when donating (these were the days when it was still a gravity-fed mechanism, and the phlebotomist overfilled the bag! I was about two seconds from passing completely out before they more or less flipped me upside-down to bring me back...). Anyway, I plan to become a regular again, and this is the second time I've donated in about 9 weeks. I echo everything you said about the reasons for it, and it's good to know that it's available if needed.

Oh, and I'm AB+, so I'm a perfect match for a Class A/B tube amp! Okay, stupid pun...

I donated my first time last year as soon as I was old enough to. I intend on doing it again after basketball season is over. Great cause. I'd be an O- by the way.

I am a nurse and know the importance of the donation(s) that you give. One pint of blood can save as many as three lives. I gave blood a week ago and do everytime my place of employment holds a drive, about once a quater. Thank for giving.

I think the first time I donated I was 40. Right now I remember that I gave blood about 15 times only but hey, it is not a competition and even if sometimes I'm sad thinking that I could have done more, I do what I can and I don't blame myself, some people simply can't give blood because of health issues. Anyway, you are doing the right thing guys.

That's pretty much what convinced me to start it up again. My brother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer in May 2007, and he has literally given gallons of blood over the past 20+ years. Thankfully it appears that he is cancer-free right now, but due to all of the chemo and radiation he can't donate for at least five years. I thought about it and thought about it, and finally realized that I could try to pick up where he left off. Sometimes you just never know what will inspire you to do something, huh?

This is a good time of the year to donate more should do the same but remember there is always a need year round.

I had to get over my phobia. I was in the military as a medic before becoming a nurse. We used to train on each other once a quarter. When I became the instructor for IV placements, I used to have new-be's sticking me as I watched and tell them what they were doing wrong and how to correct it as they were doing it. I still cannot stand needles...but am not afraid of them any more.

Yep, it's an important thing to do.

Many people don't realise how little reserves of blood are kept... overcome your fears and keep on doin' it!

I give blood two or three times a year. This year I had to wait because of a surgery I had this summer and the timing was right for me now, not because it's that time of the year. It is also true that the general empathy is stronger around Christmas time and if of the 200,000 members we are now, only 100 took the time to read this topic and of that 100, a few take the time to give blood and/or talk about it, well it's OK. 8) The idea is not to use this forum to promote anything so the members feel that they have to do something about it. It's not for everybody we all agree on that. (Buy Fender). So as I said, just a reminder. 8)

Delighted to promote blood dontation - here on the Forum or anywhere.

Under the system in my country I donate three times per year. My brother once had an emergency and needed 10 pints of blood to save his life. So it took me three years just to get my family into credit!

Quick, easy - and life saving. Go to it!

Cheers - C
