Recently, an acquaintance who's a very good player and a gigging musician was using an Ibanez "Steve Vai" multi-thousand dollar guitar. Since I enjoy my Strat a lot, I inquired about why he wasn't going with a Strat. He indicated that his Ibanez was so worldclass and a Fender was more a good one to start with. I was like, what the F are you talking about? Although I'm not a gigging musician and basically am a hobbyist, I love to play and do so pretty much every day. My tastes run to old school Blues - like play Clapton's Crossroad Blues arrangement at 75 BPM to a Chicago Blues beat and you'll see it's cool. Yet, Fender Strats are versatile enough to cover anything from pop-rock to Modern Rock, and then there's the Teles if you need that, like Stone Temple Pilots used in its heyday to create a late rock resurgence in the 1990s.

Soon afterwards, other Strat players (numerous) also were inquiring. So, he gave it a try. Guess what? Ibanez is out.

Today he's performing with an American Deluxe HSS (humbucker/single/single) design Stratocaster, which is a pretty sweet design including the innovative LSR roller nut, a contoured heel, a humbucker that retains Strat character, and SCN "noiseless" single-coil appearing mid and neck pickups. The SCN to my taste lack the classic brilliance of my own custom-shop pickups, but they're closer in the neck and mid and have their own appealing character. Moreover, the noiseless is necessary when playing with a lot of background electronics as do many pros. Also, the SCN technology permits elimination of dead pickups like I experienced on a Custom Shop pickup a couple of years ago. So, there you have it, yet another convert to Fender. Now that I'm not being dissed by Ibanez fans, my only problem is envy because I've had GAS for the same thing - the HSS American Deluxe - for a while.

Whatever works, just use it...

But there is a reason the Fender Strat., Tele., P-Bass, & J-Bass, are all icons.

There are many sounds, but the classic sounds are classics again for the reason they appeal to creativity of the artist who can rely on the performance: tone, feel, look, etc... This in return will inspire the musician to deliver music to the listener who will hopefully respond.

Again, the brand is a matter of taste., though you count on a classic Fender to generate a safety net for performance.

as a lover of all things fender, I admit, they don't have it all. I wanted a semi hollowbody jazz style guitar for rockabilly and jazzier stuff and went to get a lower end gibson epiphone but I was so impressed with how much better made and sounding the Ibanez Artcore series was, I happily walked out with the AS73 model in trans cherry.

So I'll stick with fender for my strats and teles, and I will probably pick up another Ibanez, a les paul looking one they have out, to take care of my gibson needs.

But as said here, to each their own, main thing is to just play and keep learning!
