There was always singing in the car etc. and my father played the piano.
When I was about 8 I got told that I was taking piano lessons.
I took the piano lessons, practiced 40 minutes each day and played in the recitals but I didn't dig it much. I'd always wanted to play guitar.

Well as soon as I had saved up enough money from cutting yards and delivering news papers I bought a junker electric guitar from the Swap Meet and got me some lessons.

I haven't looked back

Growing up watching Jimi Hendrix and Elvis on TV. And the news vid clips of Woodstock plus the movie about Woodstock when it came out decades ago.

Got my first guitar-a Strat sunburst copy- and amp with 12 1/2 books of S&H greenstamps gotten in 1971. I've still got the little 5 watt amp that still works.

Humm... it was all so long ago. According to my parents, I was always musical. I was always singing. I couldn't sleep unless they put the radio on in my room. The first guy I paid attention to was Elvis. When I was 10, my Dad got me one of those cheap no-name guitars.

I puttered around on it, then ignored it until I saw The Beatles. Then, I picked it up again. What I didn't know at the time was I had it tuned to an opened chord and used my first finger and thumb to press down on the frets. They heard me and thought I was on to something, so they got me lessons. The Teacher then showed me the right way to play.

My first electric was a Kent. The first amp was a Danelectro 5 watt. I thought it was great. I used to practice 3 hours a day. In 1971 my Dad bought me a Telecaster with the Bigsby, which I still own... and a Vibrolux Reverb, which was stolen from me in the 80's somewhere.

I retired playing in bands in 1991 when my daughter was born. Right after my son was born my wife was diagnosed with the progressive form of MS. Now that my kids are older, I have decided to start playing again. My daughter also plays now. She also sings in the choir.

So... that's about the short of it. (And I guess even that was too long...)

At a very early age (10 or so) I was consumed with the idea of playing. My uncle had a Fender Duosonic and a Gibson amp that he never played. So I begged him at every family gathering to borrow it. When I was 12, he finally succumbed knowing that I was serious. With a Fender Duosonic in hand, I never looked back (the Duosonic went back to my uncle when I purchased my first Gibson a few yeards later, who still has it along with the Gibson amp).

Ive always loved music from as long as I can remember but it was only 3 years ago (about 40 years after buying my first single) that my wife bought me my first guitar, a Gibson LP Studio and Fender amp for xmas. I had no idea she was doing that, now 6 guitars in my collection and she doesnt know what she started :D :D

Awed by Les Paul playing a 5 minute, 2 song thing weekdays after Mickey Mouse Club, with Mary Ford.

Could finally afford a guitar (Harmony H78 Jazzmaster-looking with 3-tube amp) after caddying at 16. Positively captivated, enthralled by the British Invaison and surf music and folk-rock and early psychedelia.

Then bought a good guitar and decent amp and never looked back since. Guitar is a life-love.

I am the same. I realized that a lot of my favorite songs were never going to be available. As many emails as I sent to the companies I knew deep down they were never going to put the Marshall Tucker band in Guitar Hero. So I guess we could say Toy Caldwell got me going.

Ha ha ha :D I used to watch the Mickey Mouse Club, but I don't remember Les Paul playing. I was probably too busy looking at Annette Funicello. (I have no idea how to spell, "Funicello").

Hey Frank,

It doesn't sound stupid at all. We all have different backgrounds when it comes to our musical aspirations, and none of them can be, or should be denied! They are all very valid. Plus it seems almost all the players in this forum are pretty easygoing and happy to welcome someone else with a love for music - especially Fender music.

Cheers,
