No distortion pedals for me. And I love distortions. But to me they should happen within the amp. My favorite distortions have always come from tube amps with good tube preamps or cranked tube amps with the power tubes clipping. To me this is an important aspect of a good amp. There is nothing like the even order harmonics produced by clipping tubes

If you come across a T-rex Møller(or moller, moeller) overdrive be sure to give it a try, sounds like a tube screamer but more transparent, a mid boost option, and with a very clean and transparant boost added with a proper switch(not a little flip or turn knob), it blows minds!!

My neighbors would probably disagree with you.

It's been years since I've been able to crank up the amps so I use a TS9.

Guys like SRV ran their amps at 12 and passed their signal through one or two OD pedals.

Cranked in a good, well made amp with lots of headroom will not go into distortion. It will just get loud.
