My particular favourite is Oyster Stout. Try it with a steak.
They have some fantastic names don't they ?
Bishops Finger, Old Peculiar, it goes on, we could start a thread naming these.
Another "did you know" Madonna drinks Timothy Taylor's

Hehehe! Who the heck was this Bishop that got all the beers named after him?

Mind you, a lot of us Brits don't know that they have nice ales in America too. I spent a happy evening in NY once on something called Sam Adams Ale - would that be the name? Very pleasant.

Here's a good drinkers' "did you know?":

Charlie Watts, the Stones drummer, never really got into the drink and drugs till he was in his 40s. Then something clicked and he started getting wrecked big time. Way he tells it, he was really beginning to fall apart at the seams till one day Keith Richards said to him: "Man, you seriously have to slow down!" And Charlie said, "When Keith Richards tells you you're overdoing it, that's advice you have to listen to!"

Got him off the sauce, anyhow...

Cheers - C

HaHa, I'm surprised our Keef is still alive.......or is he ?
He looks like he has defied just about everything. They might be holding him up with a prop on stage now, or wires or something.
Good story. :D Love it.

And for that matter an Imperial pint is 20 fluid ounces, while I believe a US pint is 16 fl. oz. (is that right?). That, and the strength of some British style room temperature beers, explains the phenomenon of American visitors to UK pubs getting unexpectedly drunk on what they took to be moderate drinks orders.

Same sized pints in Ireland too. I wonder if StratmanSteve noticed that effect when he was drinking Guinness in Dublin recently?

Cheers - C

Funny you should ask. My brother and I talked about pint sizes before we went over. Actually, the glasses looked to be the same size as those in the States. I must confess to some disappointment.

On the subject of Samuel Adams beers, I've been a big fan from the beginning. Lots of different styles to choose from. I like the Cream Stout, but it's not very popular and so it's hard to find. Also, I'm related to Sam Adams . . . but I haven't seen a dime of the beer profits.

I like your Sam, too -- Samuel Smith -- especially the Tadcaster Ale and the Oatmeal Stout. They are a bit pricey this side of the pond.

Hello, hello: here's a gentleman who knows. Anyone who's even heard of Tadcaster beer is OK with me!

Same sized pints of Guinness in Ireland as the States, huh? I wonder if that's because they take their glasses with them when they open Irish bars all around the world? Or maybe I've been underestimating the American pint all these years - sorry. It's really true, though, isn't it - Guinness truly does taste better in Dublin than anywhere else?

Casting my mind back (early '90s) my nice Samuel Adams evening was at Birdland in NY. Can't say who was playing: a piano trio, I recall. Nice music - at Birdland - with good beer - in the Big Apple. I was one happy bunny!

Now, it's the Did You Know? thread, so here's another Charlie Watts story.

A little while ago, I think maybe at the beginning of the Hot Licks tour, Mick Jagger was talking loudly to journalists about his band, and started talking about his drummer, like Charlie was his pet poodle and such. Something finally snapped inside the gentle Mr Watts and he strolled over to Mick and clocked him on the nose. Reports differ over whether Jagger was KO'd or not, but everyone agrees he's been very respectful ever since.

The Did You Know bit about that story is that it took Charlie about 40 years to get around to doing the job. Amazing patience.

Cheers - C

Concerning the Pete Townshend story-he did come up with the idea of an 8-12 cabinet but Pete went to James Marshall of Marshall Amps and Jim Marshall had the idea of cutting the cab in half and angling the top cab.

Did you know-the first Chevrolet V8 was not the 265 from 1955 but came out in 1917 and went to 1919. This V8 didn't have valve covers but required the driver to keep oil-soaked cloth rags on top of the valves to keep the valvetrain lubricated. And the car this engine was in cost $3000!

Did you know that Dave Mustaine of Megadeth was booted From Metallica because he was beating up on the rest of them?

Did you know Dave Mustaine has his own line of COFFEE?
That's a metal brew right there.

I always heard it was cause he was an obnoxious drunk...

Here's another...Drummer John Tempesta who used to drum with White Zombie, Exodus, Testament, Scum of the Earth, and most recently The Cult was the drum tech for Anthrax in the late 80s-early 90s.

I'm sure everyone knows that Brian May uses an English sixpence for a guitar pick. But did you know that it is considered good luck for a bride to get married with a sixpence in her left shoe?

It's true! It's really true!!! Even in London it didn't taste the same. The stout in London tasted about the same as the stout in Miami !!

I tried the Guinness Export variety that they make for Asia. It tasted nothing like the Guinness I know and love. Quite disappointed.

How did we get on to this subject anyway?

Did you know of the 12 players in the NFL hall of Fame listed under the Indianapolis Colts none of them ever played for Indianapolis.

It was sad that when the NFL allowed the ----- that owned the team to move that the City of Baltimore was not allowed to keep the history of the team. All these players were Baltimore Colts.

When the Browns were moved to Baltimore not only was the name left but more importantly the history to Cleveland.
