LP Custom, Telecaster , Stratocaster after you own one of each of these you then buy a Jag.

Why does ANYONE go on the Fender forum to ask if they should buy a Epiphone? To quote Carlos Mencia: 'Deedeedee!'.

If you are already well-Fenered, the real thing Gibson SG faded can be a bargain-supreme. Test them out tho, they vary.

If you are still in Fender-ly acquisition mode however, in this opinion, skip the Jag and do a Jazzmaster, in this opinion the JM is arguably guitar-dom's most under-rated (and an incredibly flexible) axe.

Classic answer: Play them both...see which one rocks your world. If it were 1962, knowing what I do now, I'd tell you to buy both the Fender and the Gibson and put them under the bed for the next 50 years.

I selected in the following order:

Strat
Tele
Epi LP Custom
Seagull Accustic
SG

Now thinking about another Fender

I played a SG faded... It wasn't that great. I also heard that a lot of times, their pickups die.

Although I love the look of the Jaguar, I think the LP is probably a more versatile choice. And even though both guitars have a shorter scale than that of the Strat or Tele, the Jaguar's 24" scale might make for a more difficult adjustment than the LP.
