I'm considering an 08 Strat and I have not played one yet. I know what all the new improvements and specs are, but I have to know from those of you who own one and have compared it to your pre 2008 Strat. Is there really a noticable improvement in tone or playability?

I have an `08 MIA Strat and its a pleasure to play. Try one out at a local music store, you won`t be disappointed.

I have an '08 American Standard and it seems that the bridge pup is a little hotter than previous models. I also like the rolled fret edges and smooth, fast neck.

The new molded cases are much nicer too.

From the Specs....

Three keys points:

A new bridge with improved bent-steel saddles and a copper-infused high-mass block for increased resonance and sustain.
A thinner finish undercoat that lets the body breathe and improves resonance.
A new Fender-exclusive SKB molded case.

Though the guitar had subtle changes...as with any change, they all add up to the bigger picture in regards to tone/performance.

Can't think of a thing I'd do to change my 2008 Am-Std. Great neck, righteous pickups, and fantastic playability. It Rocks! 8) Mike

Teach all you know how to read serial numbers. I'm seeing a lot of MZ7's on the walls this holiday season. Stopped into one local venue this evening and didn't see one new MIM, the likes of what's been discussed lately.

Gonna check out a few others this weekend.

I like mine! I did some minor cosmetic changes when I first got it, but that was no big deal (aged hardware) - the playability of this guitar is AWESOME!
