So what do you use? I use mostly flat picks but comming from an acoustical background, I still try to keep my finger in it (humour) by using just fingers. I have tried "claws" but have difficulty finding the extra space needed for them. The claws (fingerpicks) of choice are steel Nationals with a small plastic thumb pick, and work great with my accoustic 12 string.

Since discovering V picks here, I use nothing else now.

Yes, I'm a v-picks man myself now but I occasionally use fingers.

I use flat pick and/or fingers. To me, it's simply a matter of convenience, depending on what I'm playing.

I use flatpicks. As a youngster I used fingers and fingerpicks, too. Can't get used to them anymore.

I use flat picks or bare hands, on both electric and acoustic, depending on what I'm playing and what sound I'm going after.

I hate using fingerpicks/thumbpicks, and don't care for the girly-nail thing either.

I don't use a pick what-so-ever... i simply cannot get used to it (have tried many times) and feel like i have all the control just using my fingers...

but i do pay the price.. that is, it does really ache my index finger after playing for a while ...

I started with my thumb--then expanded into classical where I use my fingers, but then I started on electric, and form there I used a pick almost exclusively. I tried finger picks, but I find them uncomfortable. I do have a thumb pick still--and I try it out every now & then. But since I've been playing more slide lately I am really starting to use my fingers & thumb a lot more again. So it depends on what I'm playing which I use. I also do hybrid picking sometimes.

On bass I almost always use my fingers--but on certain songs and types of rhythms my thumb, or a pick is better.

Ultimately, it's about the song.

I've gotta try those Vpicks. They sound pretty good. I am surprised at the variety of styles used by individuals. I thought I was the only weirdo that actually uses different picks!

Hybrid picking is where you use a pick and your fingers at the same time.
For example I will hold the pick with my thumb and first finger, and then use my middle & ring fingers--and possibly my pinky, to pick the higher strings.

It's similar to using your thumb & fingers--but sometimes within a song there are parts you would rather play with a pick, and parts you need to finger pick.

Some guitarists palm their pick while they fingerpick, then go back to the pick. Some use odd picks--like one on a "mini bungy type chord" that loops around your finger--so you can drop it for finger picking but you can yank it back up to use the pick.

Or you can use hybrid picking.

It depends on which guitar and song I'm playing.

I like to use fingers on a nylon string classical guitar and some acoustics, but for the most part, a flat pick.

Flat picks 99.9% of the time, unless I cannot find a pick, then I use my thumb.
