Hi , i recently bought a "New Oldstock" 60th anniversary 2006-2007 FENDER® Lefty American Series Stratocaster and the ad said it was a "" discontinued model ""..... The American Series was replaced by the new American Standard. They are basically the same guitar. Fender made a few changes -- better bridge and saddles, tinted neck, new finishes, and the TSA case -- not sure why they thought it was enough to change the name. Not to confuse you, but the series of guitars before the American Series was the (old) American Standard. Got it?

Keep in mind though, Nobody caters to us "Lefty's" So when Fender does a special run on a lefty model, it's just that! They only make so many and that's it! Except for Am. Standards and MIM Standards, and even those are only offered in certain colors.

Here's something I've always wondered, though, and please don't take offense if this is a dumb question, but doesn't the left hand do all the hard stuff when playing "right handed"? And so wouldn't lefties actually be advantaged by playing the guitar the "right handed" way around?

I know you lefties are in excellent company (McCartney, Hendrix etc), but I've always wondered about this.

So maybe us righties should play left handed guitars

My daughter asked the same question to me. I had her try to play lefty. If your brain is not wired that way...and you did not learn that way...it is most difficult. My daughter could not strum and play cords left handed; however, she could playing right handed. (by the way she is ambidextrious for mostly everything else in life)

I look at this two ways, and I mean no offense to lefties at all.
1. demand results in supply. I think only 9% of people are left handed. I'm totally making that number up, but I think it is in the ballpark. I would say at least a third of those use right handed guitars, possibly even half. The demand is low and specialty parts are tooled for these guitars. the bridge would be backwards, the nut, the pickups, can they just flip them? don't know if that works "properly"

2. It seems to me they don't sell left handed pianos.

In related news I once bought a left handed bass and converted it to a righty. It is hideous, has numerous problems due to the conversion, but I love it because I put the time and trouble into it to make it unique. I did flip my pickups in the bass but it isn't a quality instrument and I didn't notice a difference in the sound either way.
