I just got an e-mail from Musician's Friend, offering 20% off gift certificates with coupon code CR20.

If you want to buy anyone a gift certificate, or feel like saving yourself some money, I'd buy them.

I'm considering buy a few hundred dollars' worth, and using them towards a future purchase for myself.

If I buy that Hofner bass for $350, I'd only need $270 worth of gift certificates. Bundle those with some future 15% off offer, and I'm down to around $220.

[EDIT] Just so everyone's aware, you have to enter the code in the checkout, not in the shopping cart.

So sorry, I forgot everyone is supposed to hate Guitar Center.

I've never had any trouble with the company. I prefer to support the local stores when I can (and when the Great House of Guitars is in your backyard, it's like an amusement park), but if I can save 20%, I'm going to.

That 20% is no joke. If I didn't just get two guitars, one from ebay and one from Music Go Round I would get a very good deal on a scratch n' dent, especially with an extra 20% discount. They have a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster SSH for 231.00 (Sn'D) if you subtract another 20% it totals under 190 bucks. Considering it's basically a new guitar that sells for 300 dollars that is a great holiday savings. MFs' scratch n' dent is a good deal. I saw a fender HSS for about 307. Now subtract 20% and it's like 240 or something. WOW

I'm really going to buy one later tonight. I'm not sure how much I'll spend, though... I'll have to pick something I want to buy, first.

Don't trust them. In case you didn't know, them along with Music 123, are owned by Guitar Center, and we all know just how consumer friendly they are.

Thanks for the code.

I do support my local store, though it was cool of pohatu771 to share this information.

Your mileage may vary, but I just got denied with the CR20 code on the musiciansfriend.com website. I tried to buy the Classic Player Jazzmaster Special that I've had my eye on, and I got this error message:

Quote:
Restrictions on this coupon prevent it from being applied to your order. If you have questions call customer service at 800-391-8762.

So, depending on what you want to order, you may or may not be able to get the 20% discount. Bummer.

I just received the same error message trying to purchase a gift certificate with this coupon code.

The strange thing is that the grand total after applying the coupon does reflect the 20% discount. But next to the total is a green error message (green for an error? WTF?!!!)...

So I called customer service and they were completely clueless about what the error message meant and they claimed they had no knowledge of the CR20 code at all. And when I mean clueless I mean CLUELESS (but nice)!

Has anyone had success with this coupon?

This is the first time I have ever had any issue with MF. But maybe the posters above are correct that they aren't always completely trustworthy.

EDIT: I just put the order through anyway. We'll see what happens. I'll let you know if the code works or not. If not this is definitely a deceptive trade practice since the cart gave me a total that reflected the discount as well as a message saying that the 20% figure had been deducted from my total. So this error message is contradictory to say the least.

HI All
It seems that Fender,as well as other "Top" brands do not qualify for any discounts... at least on line, At MF, GC, there is a page with the "qualifiers"

Good Luck

Bill

The 20% off was only one gift certificates, for one. That would explain why it didn't work for your guitars.

Also, the e-mail said "between November 26 and November 28..." so it may have ended at midnight local time, wherever the company is based.

Also, Musician's Friend has the instant rebates available right now... to continue using my Hofner example, a $350 purchase qualifies for a $30 instant rebate.

The 20% off by using a discounted gift certificate puts me at $280.

The extra $30 makes it $250.

The coupon may or may not have worked for me today. Still waiting for the order to be (manually?) processed. Customer service now tells me that the discount will be applied. However I will not trust this until I see the final receipt with the amount charged to my credit card. Apparently this can take up to 24 hours...

EDIT: Apparently I have had success. :D Everything seems to have worked out for my purchase using this coupon code for a gift certificate as I had hoped. This is the only 20% off deal on musical equipment that I've found this year. It was a bit of a hassle but it was better than waiting in line at Best Buy or Walmart.
