Hey everyone, I'm a new player and have a Squier sa100 acoustic and now want to get an electric. What would you suggest? I am definately sticking with Fender due to the great quality I saw in my guitar and was cosidering the Starcaster package for the $$ i don't have and want to get started inexpensively. Any advice would be appreciated thanks!

I would try out the Squier Standards they sell for 199.00 at most places and are good deal for the money.

Keep your eye out for used Fender Strats. you might be able to find a MIM strat, a couple years old, for a little more than a Squier.

Otherwise try out as many as you can and have some fun :)

If you are really serious about playing, stay away from the Strat Pack type guitars. Those Squires really are not very good. If you must have a Squire try the 199-300 buck Squires; you can find some good ones. I would suggest you spend the extra 80 bucks and buy a nice MIM Stratocaster. Play a lot of them and you will find some that rival the American made ones.

You could probably get a used MIM Fender Stratocaster for around $250.00 or so if you look around on either E-Bay or Craig's List. As far as a amp goes, might I suggest a Fender Frontman 25 R? They're only around $140.00 for a new one and will last you quite a while and they're more than loud enough for small club gigs.

If the MIM strat. meets your budget, it is a great value.

New, the vintage reissue Squier's are very nice.

All the guys that commented previously are correct. Don't buy any guitar just becasue it is cheap(er). The easier your guitar is to play, the bigger the chance that you will be succesful. the more succesful you are, the longer you will stay with it. The longer you stay with it, the more you want to spend money on on more exensive guitars. What a vicious cycle.

The new Starcaster is crap (no offence to anyone who owns one). I would opt for a higher-end Squire or a Fender. It really depends on what your budget is. There is a Squire Affinity package that's pretty inexpensive. You can check out musiciansfriend.com or samash.com to check out prices. These are pretty standard prices for this type of package.
