Thanks! Again, being the only guitar player, I am a little nervous that it won't sound very good...but I will look into some of the suggestions here, and just try and see what happens in our practices..that will be the place to see if it will work.

You need to "practice" this stuff on your own. Then you'll know how it sounds. Don't confuse band rehearsals with "practicing". The practicing is the homework, it's what you do on your own. When you meet, you should have all your stuff down so you're just running through things and trying a few things maybe. Work on it in your own time before you meet with them. If it fits and they like it, great. If not, you already know the old way.

Learn chord inversions. You can get a lot of cool riffs and different sounding type shords out of them
