I know this isn't a music topic but I thought I might get some interesting output from fellow loungers. Last night I turned on AMC and discovered that Oliver Stones' move JFK was being aired, and that yesterday in 1963 JFK was murdered. I remember watching the movie when I was active duty and we all speculated this and guessed that. I want to hear what forum loungers think happened that day. I'll start by giving my theories.
1) JFK was not murdered.... it was all a cover up to prevent him from being assassinated by the Russians, the mob or Cuba.
2)JFK was fumbling Vietnam. He could have used tactical nuclear warheads on military targets and not lost so many soldiers. This type of "negligence" may have made him a target.
3)Lone gunman shoots president and media frenzy ensues.
The order of my theories has nothing to do with my belief in their accuracy, in fact the first theory is my newest (2003 or so).

So lets hear your two cents.

Huh? Is this theory that JFK did not die 45 years ago? His death was faked so that he wouldn't be assissinated by others?

I once saw a cover of one of those "rags" that had a "photo" of an 80 year old JFK in a wheelchair (next to a story about a two-headed devil baby, IIRC). I believe the headline was that he had finally died, or something, I can't recall for sure, it was a long time ago!

If U.S. Government would declassify the information they have, we would know. They have blacked out almost all the pertinent information. Making any of the reports for the most part useless.

My brother clearly remembers that horrible day.

Hello Contrabassist,

I remember it like it was yesterday.
Dismissed from Miss Campbells class early
went home to play a memorial baseball game
of countless innings.

Cheers.

I remember it too.

2nd grade. Came back from lunch and Mrs Bartell was crying.
Principal Ryles came in and dismissed us for the day. Long weekend.

Oh, man!... That stuff still haunts me. I was really young. I guess I was 10?... My parents watched a lot of news, so I saw all that stuff. I even remember seeing Ruby shoot Oswald as it happened. I think that sort of tainted the American way of life.

Anyway, I'll watch anything about that.

I still don't believe the "Magic Bullet Theory", no matter how many computer simulations they create.

Well here is my take on the whole thing:

JFK was assassinated by the French Mafia(yes there is/was such a thing, in fact there was a noted hit man for the French Mafia that claimed on his deathbed in a prison in Canada that he was the one on the Grassy Knoll). I think it was a way to stem the incessant prosecutions of the NY Mafia by the AG Bobby Kennedy. Plus the Mafia was upset at the dealings with the Kennedy's that they were hired to kill Castro and felt betrayed by the Kennedy's.

I also think that Lyndon Johnson was in cahoots with the mob and that is why he was sworn in on the plane back to Washington, DC.

Any way, that is what I think. I know. I am a crackpot. But that is okay. I am happier that way!

There is a new book out which claims to use declassified FBI stuff and deathbed confessions of several mob figures.

A lot of people say it was James Files along with two others who did it for there Boss Sam Gianacana. The Kennedys stabed them in the back after they helped to get him elected. ( The Chicago Mob, Politicians, Unions) sounds familiar

Files had details they say no one else had and he was a intelligence agent in Laos. Files claims he did the head shot with a Remington XP 100 which is a long range shooting .221 handgun that was built like a short action carbine. And that old Fireball round could do it from everthing I have read about. I have seen people at the range with the .223 versions that were made doing the 90's :)

I was in Jr. High School and they let us out early when he was killed. Then I saw Oswald get shot by Jack Ruby live on TV. What a day that was, I don`t think anyone expected to see that.

I remember, too -- I got the news in Miss FitzGibbons' 3rd grade class.
The funeral was on all three channels (if you were lucky enough to get three back in the day). My mother made this fidgety 8-year old sit through much of it telling me, "Watch this. This is history." I'm glad she did.
