Today's country music, at least what I've seen and heard lately, is not your daddy's country music.

Lady Antebellum, The Tractors, Brooks & Dunn etc...

I've seen a lot of Gretsch lately, along with Teles, Strats even Jags.

I did see a Jag!! Yes, there seems to be a concerted effort to make Country music appeal to people beyond the normal demographic, and especially to young people. There seems to be more pop and rock in it than there was years ago. Lots of new young stars.

Definitely a Tele. Session ace Brent Mason (works with Travis Tritt, Toby Keith, & many others) and virtuoso Brad Paisely both use Teles. If you are looking for more versatility consider a Nashville Tele which is simply a three pickup tele: Tele neck pu, Strat middle pu, and Tele Bridge with a 5-way switch providing a mixture of tele and strat type sounds.
