Here's one in reverse -- "Brandy" by Looking Glass. The song was so overplayed that it eventually made a lot of people want to gag. And since I was in a commercial band as the time, you could include me in that number.

But ironically, nothing else the group did was even remotely like "Brandy." They were a good butt kick bar style band and everything else they did seriously rocked. I read an article once that said this got them in hot water more than once. Their agent (who seemingly had no clue what they really played) would book gigs for people expecting nothing but a whole night of tunes like Brandy. Ooops ...

Know what you mean. For me it is "Summer of '69."

"In the Air Tonight" - Phil Collins. I'm a sucker for songs with that airy, eerie, atmospheric vibe. Even the beer commercial couldn't kill it for me.

Back in the day, Phil was everywhere -- with Genesis, performing solo, appearing on TV especially Miami Vice. The DJ's on the local rocker loved him and played his stuff so much that listeners demanded and got a "No Phil Collins Day". The DJs were mystified by the backlash. I think he's very talented, but he suffered from overexposure.

Well, I think for me it's going to be ' Sowing the Seeds of Love ' by Tears For Fears, yeah I know it sounds like a Beatles rip-off. But it kinda hit the spot at the time.

It's funny you should mention "In The Air Tonight", it was so overplayed, along with other Phil Collins songs, I thought I hated it. But I just got Eric Clapton Live At Monteux from 1986 with Phil Collins on the Drums, Nathan East on Bass, and Greg Phillinganes on Keys. One of the best parts is them doing "In The Air Tonight".

Back in Baby's Arms by Pastsy Cline. I have no idea why I'm intrigued by that tune.
