Hi guys,

I am a big fan of Tommy Shaw's guitar style. I was wondering if anyone knew the scales that he uses for solos or has any suggestions for lessons on how to acheive his sound and maybe what his tecnique may be. Any inof at all would be great...

Thanks!

I know Tommy Image and he would tell you that he doesn't play from a particular scale.

He uses pentatonic scale notes, but he play to the melody of a song.

Styx is kinda' one of those guilty pleasures for me, but Tommy was probably the main reason (back in the 80's) my first "real" guitar was a Les Paul (His Explorer just was too ugly for me to want).
He really is a very good and melodic player. You can hum along with his solos because they are so memorable.

Thouston!!! Great Pic! Tommy is one of the reasons I started playing guitar. He is also the reason my wife and I are together...Our first date was to the Styx Return to Paradise tour. I would love to meet him someday!

He's a fairly talented dude, but he seems to be "the kiss of death" to the bands that he joins.

They disappear fairly soon after he becomes a member.

Coincidence or Conspiracy!? 8)
