Which guitar do you think I should get: 48th Street Custom Strat Electric Guitar MIM or a G&L Tribute Series Guitar?

Both a little different.

The one you should get is the one that you like the best and the one that fits your style.

There is no magic answer anyone else can give you.

That first one would be a made for Sam Ash Inc., I'd bet. As we generally advised herein.....ya gotta play 'em 8)

Play them both and then decide.
In general I prefer the sound of the MIM Fenders to the Tribute series G&L's.

Both are imports...you just need to compare and decide after your conclusion.

...yes you can't go wrong with Fender, but then again, the "L" in G&L is for Leo Fender...so to me, a G&L is a Fender, it just does not have the Fender trademarked headstocks and names....

funny how many folks are still loyal to Leo, but then you have to really give it up for the mid 80's fender team that rebuilt Fender into what it is today.

for me it would go in this order.

#1 Vintage Fender pre CBS

#2 Fender after CBS

#3 G&L

I know its a little off topic, it just was sort of out there.

Leo's fender corp. was the magic, the eighties guys brought back the magic, the current staff is making some very fine guitars indeed.

My loyalty is to Fender, and I'll always love their guitars, especially a good Strat, till the day I die.

But G&L (as in George Fullerton and Leo Fender - the guys that started Fender, then moved on to make their own company), does make some great guitars too. I've played a few Tribute guitar and they're very good. Some guys will switch over the G&L since they thought is that Leo took his Fender ideas and took them all steps further into what his vision was when they started G&L.

All preference, both great.

The 48th Street Strat that Sam Ash had made for them is not a bad guitar but I think I would go with the G&L Tribute. My reason is that the 48th Street is a Poplar body Strat and for 150.00 more you can get the Tribute S-500 Premium which is a Swamp Ash Body and Rock Maple neck it also come with the U.S. G&L single coils  Not a fan of Poplar bodies.

So You got 48th
Poplar Body
Maple Neck
Tex Mex Pickups
Five way switch
Fender Trem

G&L
Swamp Ash body
Rock Maple neck
G&L U.S. Made pickups
Five Way switch with mini toggle for more combos
G&L dual fulcrum
