Looks remarkably like the EVH model by Ernie Ball 8)
Maybe he'll have better luck selling them under the Fender Brand.

This is going to market under the brand 'EVH Guitars'. It won't carry the Fender logo. I would guess that Eddie retained some patent or design rights over the signature series guitars which were build for him by both Peavy and Ernie Ball. The two unique features of these guitars were the pickups bolted to the body, and the assymmetric neck. With all the talk around here that we've had about neck designs, if the same as the previous models, it is a very comfortable player.

Doc

Sounds great, I'd love to be able to afford it.

I like it but I think I would just buy the Ernie Ball Axis Super Sport or the Axis with the Floyd Rose Trem. I have played the Axis and it was a nice guitar for sure.

Way back when that all began for him I read a quote by him in a guitar publication to the effect that the guitar had to be manufactured in such a fashion that he could walk into a music store anywhere in the world and take off the wall the very same guitar he performed with. I was very much impressed by this philosophy. I wonder if it still carries through today.

FYI...that pattern on the headstock, which runs through much of his gear, which he originated on the "Frankenstein" is now trademarked just as the Fender logos and letters are.

He has done well for himself becoming a brand. www.evhgear.com

The headstock design is what I don't like about the guitar pictured above Doc. The top of the headstock where it is cut down towards the tuners does not do it for me thats why I like the Ernie Ball Axis better. Looks like the same guitar but without the modified Dean looking headstock.

If you watch the video of Eddie at the mic, don't be surprised to think he is probably either high or forgot to plug in his brain. Ramble & babble. So disconnected it's actually boring. Besides, just because a guitar is perfect for him, it won't necessarily be anywhere near perfect for anyone else and if anyone believes they will suddenly 'play like Eddy' or 'sound like Eddy' just because they buy and own an EVH, they are a fool.

I once walked into a 'giant-chain' Guitar store and saw an axe on the wall with a felt-pen signature on the body. Plain, the guitar listed for a bit over 7G. With the famous guitarist's scribble, they added 18G to the final price of 25G. THAT is totally nuts. (IMHO)

On Frankenstein: (or any other 'Relic-ed' guitar)
Fact is: NO body would buy a home or an automobile that was brand-spankin' NEW and in perfect working order, BUT it LOOKED like it was condemned or so thoroughly abused it appears to have gone through a war and is about ready for the junk heap. WHY does ANYONE want a crappy-looking guitar, no matter how great it plays or sounds? ... AND pay through the nose to own it besides??? Insane. Total mystery to me. (Don't bother TRYING to explain it... & if you feel the need to do so, take note: YOU'RE insane.) Again: IMHO...... I COULD be wrong. However, I doubt there's even one person out there who'd actually WANT a spouse that LOOKED 40 years older than they are. IF that IS the case, ask Gramma or Gramps to set you up on a date with one of their ilk and have fun with the box of Depends. LOL.... OK, I'm being ridiculous, but so is paying extra for a 'trashed' guitar. That's my 2 pennies worth.

I think, Ed made Wolfgang in his own brand, because he doen't like "Peavey" decal on the headstock..... :D

Personally, I wouldn't take ANY PV product if it was FREE. NOT even if Hartley PAID me personally! When EVH began using those products, it lowered my respect for him. It went down even more when he changed singers, again when he cut his hair and finally when he split from Valerie. He hasn't got very much respect left in my book and since his original axe appeared to be a Mod Strat, he's Looooooong over-due to work with Fender. Actually, it must be about 30 years too late. IMHO

[quote="Guitarman1117"] Well, you certainly are energized, that's for sure. I agree with your sensibilities regarding 'relic(ked)' guitars, but a good number of our colleagues went for that version of the Gilmour. It's all a taste preference. I like the three on a side tuners. The 'sculpture' at the top of the headstock to me is an appeal to the 'gothic' theme in our musical subculture.

As for EVH's sensibilites reflected in the video, you'd be amazed at what sound energy can do to living tissues. In the right envrionment it is used to pulverize kidney stones, not to mention his tours with tobacco and other substances of interest.

On second look it might find some application, in a pinch, with respect to the opening of beer cans :P
