Not on the PG like in the image below but on the body or even the headstock too...
Image

What is the best science to exercise to do this...
Sand it down? Then ask the artist to sign it with a paint marker...
After that u can put a finish back over it all? any thoughts?

If I'm not mistaken a Sharpie will write over the finish of a guitar. After that probably a coat of a clear finish applied over the autograph.

Chet is correct, a Sharpie will write on the finish of a guitar. After that, I do not know.

Sorry if my post is vague, but I got the autograph back in 1997. I had this guy autograph my guitar with a Sharpie (permanent marker, not sure tip size). I tested out the sharpie before on paper to make sure it was the tip size I wanted. After the guitar was autographed, I took it to my guy at the music shop who did the setup. He put a clear coat over it (not sure what the clear coat material is though). I wouldn't suggest playing it even with a clearcoat over the autograph.

Ten years ago I had a guitar autographed. The artist used a sharpie on the headstock and the belly of the guitar (below the tremolo) on the finish. then I talked to a luthier at a guitar shop and he said the best thing to do was to a clear sheet to cover the signatures the stuff you use to cover your driver's license. He said clear coat might fade the signature. Good luck!

I don't care who the Musician is no one would write on any of my babies if someone is willing to give me a autograph on a guitar then they should have no problem letting me get a pic with them to throw in a frame. I have several pictures of me with some Nascar drivers and my favorite tis Me and the King together ( Richard Petty) but I also have a pic of me and Paul Reed Smith. Well when that was taken I was shocked to see someone there get him to put a autograph on a guitar body   not me. I was happy just to hear him talk about making guitars and speak to him afterword and get a photo of him and I.

almost looks like a Slash sig, can't tell though.

re: the autograph. I wouldn't play it. I'd clear coat it, then buy a nice display case to mount it.

of course if it's one of your own guitars, it gives you an excuse to guy buy a brand new one, too.

There is a medical grade sharpie that will stick permanently to just about anything.

I understand having a pickguard signed, or if you happen to own a guitar that was once owned by the person playing it, but other than that I don't really like the idea of signing guitars that you would normally play.

My Epiphone Casino is signed by Reverend Horton Heat (the entire band), and if they fade off, I don't mind. One of them is nearly invisible already. I didn't get it signed, it was like that when I bough it. I have no sentimental attachment to the signatures.

I saw on eBay an Epiphone Lucille that had the pickguard signed by B.B. King. I also saw a Gibson Chet Atkins SST that was signed by 50% of Nashville (it had been in the Country Music Hall of Fame).

This is something I've considered before... when I see Les Paul in New York, I'd like an autograph, if possible - but I'll have it on a record, not on a guitar. As a musician, I think he'd rather be known for his music than for the guitar that has his name on it.

"when I see Les Paul" sounds like you have been invited over for lasagna. What's the story there?

Actually, it's for Thanksgiving.

I intend to go to New York and see Les Paul play in the near future. I don't have a specific date, but it's something I'd very much like to do.
