Did you guys notice that the prices for Fender's guitars just went up? The American Standards jumped like $200 and the VG Strat went from $1,700 to $2,500. :shock:

Thanks for the info. I guess it is time to get a American Standard off the shelf before the new shipments arrive.

Well that's a pity. I got my MiM when they were climbing up a little, and I'm glad I got one before they became...unaffordable to me. :roll:

Yep, I was in picking up my axe from service and the guys at the shop said they just received instructions from their (wherever they get instructions from) to up prices 15%-25% on just about everything.

But it was the same at a game shop while picking up some wii and xbox games for Christmas. They said same thing, their chain Head office sent out notice to up prices in about the same range.

I suspect raise prices now so you can drop them to normal and claim you are having holiday sales ?

Haven't seen the increase on guitarcenter.com yet - but glad I got mine 3 weeks ago!

I just walked through my local shopping mall, during the week, and found not very many people walking around. I went into several large department store, and all the sales people where just standing around, in an almost empty store. New reports keep saying shopping is way down, because of the new economy. So......I wonder if the price increase might slow the music stores as well.

Thanks for the heads up -- I had noticed that prices seemed a bit higher in a recent catalog from an online/catalog seller. This confirms what I wasn't 100% sure about.

They're talking about an emergency 1.5% sales tax boost here in California. That plus material price increases could result in a pretty GAS-less holiday this year! Soooo ... I either have to reach for the Beano or head over to GC this very weekend.

I kinda think it may be new MAP pricing started Nov. 1 given to the Dealers to use as thay are requierd. Like others have said I have been seeing sales down on everything but the cost of operating is not going down so you have to make it somewhere.

I have just been looking to buy and at the moment in England prices are remaining stable, in fact I have just been quoted a price for an Eric Clapton Custom Shop for delivery in March from my local shop the same as being advertised on the internet for identical stock guitars in other stores but a long way from home.
The £ has collapsed against the dollar (about 20-25% down in last 4 weeks or so) and I was expecting increases just from the $ to £ conversion.

Scary. If sales are way down as they seem to be. And people are not buying, probably because they are getting quite worried about their jobs and savings vanishing;
Then increasing prices should help boost up sales?

I'm sure the reason for this is because the cost of production is higher. We all know that Fender would not do this to us if there wasn't a good reason.
